Two Directors Want to Step Up for G.I. Joe 2 Gig

Now that director Stephen Sommers will not be returning for the sequel, two directors are lining up for G.I. Joe 2 (working title).
THR reports that both F. Gary Gray (Law Abiding Citizen, The Italian Job) and Jon Chu (Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, Step Up 3D) are Paramount's "hot candidates" to direct the sequel to
2009's high-grossing G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. The studio has been meeting with other directors as well, but Chu and Gray are at the top.
While Gray has more action experience, Chu has directed more 3-D movies, albeit all of Chu's 3-D movies have included a lot of dancing, something Cobra Commander isn't known for (but G.I. Joe star Channing Tatum is). Paramount is hoping to start production this June, eying a 2012 release, and are hoping to finish their talks with directors this week.
Zombieland screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are responsible for the screenplay, which is being kept under wraps.
