Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill are getting a boss.
Deadline reports that Ice Cube is in negotiations to join Columbia Pictures' remake of 21 Jump Street in the role of the precinct captain originally played by Steven Williams on the Fox TV show.
Hill helped create the story for the remake, which is assumed to still be about undercover cops working in high schools, with Michael Bacall (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) in charge of the screenplay. Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) are directing the remake, with production beginning this spring.
Ice Cube is also trying to set up his own starring and directing project, the gritty drama Chrome and Paint. Cube co-wrote the movie with Eva Vives (Raising Victor Vargas) which is set in the custom car subculture of South Central Los Angeles, and will follow the themes of materialism and greed. Cube is hoping a studio will bite in the next two weeks for production to begin this summer.
