American Pie Cast Reunites for Fourth Sequel

American Pie 4 has been in the works for a while, with Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay writer/directors Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg announcing last April that they intended to direct the fourth installment of the franchise instead of A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas.
The Wrap reports that the upcoming sequel, titled American Reunion, is intending to bring back to original cast for another sequel, the first theatrical sequel since 2003's American Wedding. Jason Biggs and Seann William Scott are already signed to return as is Eugene Levy — no surprise there, since Levy appeared in all four direct-to-DVD American Pie Presents "comedies" such as 2009's American Pie Presents: The Book of Love. Scott's recent admission to a treatment program for "health and personal issues" is not expected to affect the production.
Thomas Ian Nichols, Tara Reid, Chris Klein, Mena Suvari, and Jennifer Coolidge are all in negotiations to return for the sequel, which Hurwitz and Schlossberg will also write. Universal is also hoping to bring back Alyson Hannigan.
Siblings Chris and Paul Weitz, who wrote and directed the first American Pie will executive produce the sequel, and, a year ago, Chris speculated about what the sequel might entail to MovieWeb.
In some ways, like any reunion, it would be about the nostalgia element. For the time that it came out. For how people felt when they first saw it. And now to experience it again with all the pathos and humor that implies.
The cast members are already excited about the sequel. Suvari recently told The New York Post that the cast is "all moving forward with the negotiation process," and she is looking forward to working on the sequel.
I think it sounds like a lot of fun — especially with the Harold & Kumar guys in charge. It’s gonna be a huge blast! I moved so many times in my life and was all about academics, so I didn’t go to prom or really care about any of that stuff. Working on American Pie gave me this amazing high school experience — I had a hot boyfriend, was in choir and went to prom [laughs]. You can’t beat that!
The American Pie franchise has been hugely successful for Universal, with the previous three movies earning $755 million worldwide. The direct-to-DVD sequels probably also made money, considering Universal produced all four of them.
