The official site for all things Marvel has released a series of new character posters for Academy Award-nominated director Kenneth Branagh's (Hamlet) upcoming comic book adaptation, Thor. Four of the six new posters contain images lifted from the banner poster that was released a few weeks ago and feature Asgardians Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Odin (Academy Award-winner Anthony Hopkins), Heimdall (Idris Elba) and human scientist and Thor love interest Jane Foster (Academy Award-winner Natalie Portman). However, the other two new posters feature images of the Asgardians Sif (Jaimie Alexander) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) that have not been previously released.
Thor was written by Ashley Edward Miller, Zack Stentz, Don Payne and Mark Protosevich and is based on the character created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber and Jack Kirby that first appeared in Journey into Mystery #83 in August 1962. Here's the official synopsis of the movie:
This epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.
Thor also stars Ray Stevenson, Tadanobu Asano and Joshua Dallas as "The Warriors Three," Volstagg, Hogun and Fandral; as well as Rene Russo as Thor's mother, Frigga; Kat Dennings as Jane Foster's assistant, Darcy; and Clark Gregg as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Coulson, a character he previously portrayed in both Iron Man and Iron Man 2.
