Viggo Mortensen Turns Down Snow White and the Huntsman

It looks like Universal will have to continue its "hunt" for a Huntsman to star opposite Kristen Stewart in first-time feature director Rupert Sanders' Snow White and the Huntsman adaptation, a modern retelling of the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale. According to Variety, Academy Award-nominated actor Viggo Mortensen (Eastern Promises) has turned down the role that he had been linked to for several months. No explanation was given for his decision.
The loss of Mortensen from Snow White is potentially good news for comic book movie fans. Mortensen was said to be a "person of interest" for the (rumored) role of the villainous Kryptonian General Zod in director Zack Snyder's Superman: The Man of Steel. His involvement in Snow White would have precluded any involvement in The Man of Steel, since both movies are expected to go into production at the same time. With his schedule now freed up, Mortensen could find time to play Zod...assuming Snyder is interested in him and Zod actually appears in the movie.
Snow White and the Huntsman was written by Evan Daugherty. Academy Award-winner Charlize Theron (Monster) is the only other actor attached to the movie besides Stewart at this time. She will play the the Evil Queen who conspires to do away with Snow White.
