Natalie Portman's Black Swan Body Double Wants Her Due

In response to a recent interview the L.A. Times conducted with Black Swan choreographer Benjamin Millepied — aka Natalie Portman's fiancé and her baby bump's daddy — in which Millepied claimed that the actress who earned an Academy Award for her portrayal of a psychologically distraught ballet dancer actually performed "85%" of her scenes in the movie, Portman's body double, Sarah Lane claims that her participation in the movie is being downplayed and that "of the full body shots" only "5 percent are Natalie." The 27-year-old American Ballet Theatre soloist claims that she is the victim of a "cover-up" and wants to set the record straight.
The shots that are just her face with arms, those shots are definitely Natalie. But that doesn't show the actual dancing.... All the other shots are me.
Lane, who was credited as a "Hand Model," "Stunt Double," and as "Lady in the Lane" (for a cameo role), says that Black Swan producer Air Handel told her not to talk to the press about how much work she did in the movie, though her contract did not include a "gag" clause.
They wanted to create this idea in people's minds that Natalie was some kind of prodigy or so gifted in dance and really worked so hard to make herself a ballerina in a year and a half for a movie, basically because of the Oscar. It is demeaning to the profession and not just to me. I've been doing this for 22 years.
Lane insists that she is not speaking out because of jealousy over Portman's success, but because her own work is being swept under the rug.
[Natalie] is an amazing actress, for sure. I know that it's not a personal thing against me. I know that it's just a political thing. It's just unfortunate that I kind of lost credit.
