Warner Bros. Admits Green Lantern Trailer Didn't Work; Next Trailer to Debut in May

The first trailer for director Martin Campbell's adaptation of Green Lantern debuted last November to a mostly lousy fan response. Since then, the movie's advertising has slowed to a crawl, with only promotional art to appease fans in the intervening months, along with one of the most boring promo pics ever released. There is a reason and it's reportedly the fault of the movie's extensive 3-D effects, which are taking too long to prepare and have slowed down the studio's marketing campaign.
"We are on a learning curve in getting 3-D materials and marketing materials on the same schedule," Warner Bros. Jeff Robinov told The LA Times. Robinov continued that Green Lantern's advertising campaign "has been delayed strictly from production."
The extra time allows the studio to prepare a much better trailer than the previous one. The next trailer is set to debut before showings of Thor which was produced by rival comic book studio Marvel, and opens May 6, just under six weeks before Green Lantern opens. Warner Bros. worldwide marketing president Sue Kroll feels that fans will be impressed with the next trailer.
Part of the reason the response to the first trailer was lukewarm was that the big-scale sequences weren't ready to show, and we suffered for it. We can't afford to do that again.
That still seems like a long time to let a trailer linger with the viewing public. Green Lantern is a significant investment for the studio, reportedly costing $200 million before the tax breaks they will receive after shooting in New Orleans. Luckily, we've discovered a few online promotional items for the upcoming comic book movie.
SuperHeroHype spotted a new poster for the movie while attending CinemaCon, and LatinoReview reports that Michael Clarke Duncan could voice the character of Kilowog, one of the alien members of the Green Lantern Corps that was revealed in the trailer breathing in Ryan Reynolds's face.
See? Take that 3-D effects!
