Details about Duncan Jones' tale of tale of space-isolation, madness, and disturbing revelations begin to emerge in 5 clips of the upcoming movie. Moon, which will be premiering at Sundance on January 23, follows a space miner (Sam Rockwell) at a desolate lunar base as he discovers that the company that put him there may be using him in ways he hadn't considered. The clips feature a Hal-like computer, voiced by Kevin Spacey, sporting a smiley-face emoticon, and hints as to what might be driving the miner toward madness.
Given that the movie is being directed by Duncan Jones (aka Zowie Bowie), his vision of isolation and madness in space could by very interesting indeed. For more of Jones' take on Moon, check out his interview yesterday with Quiet Earth. Posted 01.15.09 by reelz
Ingenious airhead Ashton Kutcher has a new trick up his sleeve: 24 Hours @ Sundance, a live online gameshow that will feature popular bloggers competing in various challenges against each other at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival. Example: One feat will involve convincing a Sundance attendee to sincerely agree that Kutcher should have one won an Oscar for Dude, Where's My Car? Funny stuff, but frankly, if anyone can pull that off, shouldn't they be directing their attentions toward bringing peace to the Middle East, or at least having a go on Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader? MTV got in a quick star-on-the-street interview with Sam Rockwell, where he confirmed earlier reports that he will be playing corporate villain Justin Hammer, rival and business badguy to Tony Stark aka Iron Man.
Yeah, he's a rival. He takes over all the weapons stuff after Tony's left. I don't know if he takes over Stark Industries. I'm not really sure yet. He's a money dude. That's about all I can say.
Incidentally, this won't be the first run-in that Rockwell has had with the armored avenger. The versatile actor was almost picked for the part of Tony Stark in the original movie, and his current girlfriend Leslie Bibb played reporter (and Stark's one-night-stand) Christine Everheart.
Rockwell also added that he expects to be shooting at Manhattan Beach by mid-April. Posted 01.15.09 by reelz

Dashing speculation that the new Star Trek movie might really go where none have gone before, Chris Pine, who will play Captain Kirk, told E! that "It is a different Star Trek, but there's no crazy sex scene." Although he had earlier helped get the rumor mill going by suggesting that the upcoming installment of the sci-fi franchise had been "sexed up for a new generation," Pine now wants everyone to know that the Starship Enterprise hasn't been turned into an intergalactic flying orgy. Just how far will the crew of the Enterprise go then? Pine says "There may be some bare midriffs, but you know it's been a long time since the bikini was invented, so I don't think we're going to ruffle any feathers." Posted 01.15.09 by reelz
In the world of high-stakes street racing, timing is everything. And so far, we'd have to say the timing of Fast & Furious is a little off. As we already noted yesterday, there's an awful lot of running in the new trailer. Obviously, the movie was filmed when gas was four bucks a gallon, and with Vin Diesel no longer the surefire box office draw he once was, well, you gotta economize, right? So, more foot chases, fewer car chases. Of course, gas prices have since calmed a bit, and had the franchise's fourth installment been ready to roll a month ago, when gas was gloriously cheap, audiences would have no doubt flocked to theaters to celebrate the return of rival petro-holics Dom Toretto and Brian O'Conner.
Unfortunately, the movie's editors weren't working fast and furious enough, and now that gas is topping two bucks a gallon again, mindless fuel consumption no longer seems so sexy. Luckily, the movie has one alternative energy source working in its favor: Maxim cover model and former fitness instructor in the Israeli Defense Forces, Gal Gadot. At a reported 94 lbs., the 5' 11" beauty may not pack the obvious wallop of, say, her more sturdily built Fast & Furious co-star Michelle Rodriguez. But if you like your Hollywood bombshells as slim and tapered as a Tomahawk warhead, Gadot may qualify as your new dream gal. We can't say for certain though, because even after multiple viewings of the new new trailer, we're not sure if she appears in it or not. Maybe she's just standing sideways. Posted 01.15.09 by reelz
