It's a big deal when word gets out about a Terrence Malick project. The press-shy director, who studied philosophy as a Rhodes Scholar before turning to movies, made his debut in the '70s with Badlands and Days of Heaven. He then went on hiatus for 20 years before helming The Thin Red Line, and it was then another seven years until The New World.
Since Malick has given us only four movies in roughly 35 years, it seems worth noting that he has not one but two movies currently on the horizon. The Tree of Life, already in post-production, is due out sometime later this year. The movie stars Sean Penn as a young man growing up in the '50s who wrestles with the pain and suffering of human existence after experiencing personal hardships. Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain portray his parents.
Already, Malick is at work on another project, according to Deadline Hollywood. Characterized as a romantic drama, the movie has some high-profile names attached: Christian Bale, Javier Bardem, Rachel McAdams, and Olga Kurylenko have all agreed to star.
Further details about the project are unknown, including not only the story and the characters, but also the financial backers.
