It's only been a little over a week since George Lucas handed over the keys to his Star Wars franchise to Disney and already potential director names are being floated around the web. X-Men: First Class and Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn is rumored to be up for the sequel, while other reports claim that Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed) could get the job since Lucas has already spoken to the director about it several months ago, and, even though the decision will not be made by Lucas, Star Wars mania dictates that any director that has met with Lucas in the next or past year is a potential candidate.
However, if certain extreme fans get their way, The Incredibles and Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol director Brad Bird should get the job. While the nation has already made their choice in the Presidential election, a new, fan-made video has arrived that makes a case for the next important race: getting Bird into the director's chair for 2015's Star Wars: Episode VII. They make a convincing argument.

Last week, Disney and moviemaker George Lucas announced that the company had purchased Lucas' profitable LucasFilm Ltd. production company for $4.05 billion, While that affords Lucas a modest retirement from making movies (actually, he plans to donate most of the money to educational charities), Lucas also revealed that he had decided to hand over his Star Wars franchise to "a new generation of filmmakers," collectively blowing the minds of millions of Star Wars fans everywhere.
While creating Star Wars has given Lucas unparalleled respect amongst writers, directors, animators and movie audiences alike, it's been Lucas' "recreations" of those same movies, as well as work creating the prequel trilogy (that's Episodes I-III for you kids that watched them sequentially), that has made him the target of those same peoples' derision. Now that Disney holds the keys to Lucas' magic kingdom, we offer 10 things to expect from the new Star Wars trilogy.

George Lucas has done it again. With yet another release of Star Wars — this time The Complete Saga (Episodes I-VI) on Blu-ray — Lucas has made more annoying tweaks to his masterpieces, further outraging fans.
His alternations include adding a line in a crucial scene in Return of the Jedi: When the Emperor is electrocuting Luke on the Death Star, Darth Vader now screams "Noooooo!" just before he throws the Emperor down a shaft. Lucas has also altered Obi-Wan Kenobi's introduction in New Hope and made the Ewoks blink in Return of the Jedi.
We, like the rest of the legion of Star Wars fans, have left dent marks on our desks, pleading, "Why, George, why?" Hoping to avoid future concussions, we came up with this list.

Writer/director/producer George Lucas gave the world two of the most thrilling and imaginative franchises in movie history with Star Wars and Indiana Jones. But despite legions of devoted fans and six of the ten highest-grossing sci-fi pictures of all time, he recently told Jon Stewart that he expected his life to turn out much differently than it has.
Lucas appeared on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart to promote his new book, George Lucas's Blockbusting, but spent most of the segment discussing Star Wars. Stewart opened the segment by chiding Lucas about a few plot holes — such as Luke and Leia Skywalker growing up under the nose of the Emperor and the Empire without being detected — and asked Lucas how he feels when fans criticize his work. Lucas commented, "Life is duality," and pointed out that there are now three generations of Star Wars fans who enjoy different parts of the overall mythology, from the original trilogy to the new trilogy to the Clone Wars animated series.
It's a work of fiction. It's a metaphor. It's not real. And, therefore, you can either like it or not like it ... whatever.
A recent rumor has Lucas planning an all-new trilogy, this time in 3-D, and there has been talk of a fifth Indiana Jones movie, but Lucas said that he is "having fun now doing television," referring to Clone Wars, saying that it is "a lot more goofy and fun" than making movies.

The ReelzChannel 100 began when we asked Leonard Maltin for his favorite Hidden Gems of the decade. His list led the web team into a general discussion about the best movies of the decade and — after no small amount of debate, arguing, and (we're not proud to say) some petty name-calling — we decided we'd better bring it to an end with a company-wide vote. Then it was just a matter of tallying up the votes and hoping for the best. Lucky for us, ReelzChannel is filled with a staff ranging from movie lovers to movie fanatics. File this one in the "We'll Believe It When We See It" category, but MarketSaw is saying an "absolutely connected," "trusted source" has let slip that, in addition to re-releasing the entire 6-part Star Wars trilogy in 3-D, George Lucas is planning on creating a new trilogy of Star Wars movies, filmed entirely in 3-D.
The article goes on to claim that Lucas is only interested in producing the trilogy, not directing, and that he may tap his friend Steven Spielberg, or perhaps Francis Ford Coppola, to helm one or all of the films.
Again, we'll believe it when we see it.

According to Variety, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince set an all-time record for its midnight opening, which took in an estimated $22.2 million. The movie screened a combined 3,003 times in theaters across the country, which means each screening took in almost $7,400.
This figure puts the sixth Potter movie well ahead of The Dark Knight and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, which earned $18 million and $17 million, respectively with their midnight debuts. It also eclipses the $16 million made by last month's midnight screenings of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
In addition, ABC News10 in Sacramento is reporting that Half-Blood Prince has overtaken The Dark Knight as the #2 entry on Fandango's list of Top 10 all-time advance ticket sellers. That puts it ahead of movies like Twilight, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, and Spiderman 3. It now trails only Revenge of the Sith.

The latest chapter in the never-ending Star Wars saga will be hitting the big AND small screens later this year.
Lucasfilm has announced that the new Clone Wars TV series for the Cartoon Network will launch with a 90-minute theatrical version at theaters nationwide on August 15th.
George Lucas and Co. are distributing through Warner Bros. on this one, which will make Clone Wars the first Star Wars feature not released through 20th Century Fox.

EW reports that sources have confirmed the long-rumored Star Wars TV series may finally be getting closer to actual production. According to EW's sources, George Lucas will be in Los Angeles next week to start hiring writers for the series. The writers would be working on the project on a freelance basis, but word is they would be relatively well-known writers.
Lucas would reportedly be hiring writers for 13 episodes which will be independently financed by Lucas.
Fans around the globe are collectively holding their breath for the announcement that Lucas will hire someone other than himself to direct the series.
