Director Ridley Scott's 1979 classic movie, Alien, perfectly blended the horror and sci-fi genres and helped launch a franchise that now includes three sequels, two "vs." movies with the Predator franchise, and countless books, comic books, toys, video games, and other related merchandise. It's no wonder then that 20th Century Fox tapped the three-time Academy Award-nominated director to revitalize the franchise that he helped create.
Not much has been heard about the new movie since the announcement that Scott was helming the Alien prequel, but in a recent interview with ShadowLocked, Roger Christian, the art-director on Alien, said that Scott plans to shoot "the next Alien in 3-D."
Ridley told me some of his ideas when we were here in Toronto. He has a very clear understanding of where this should go. They kind of stopped dead one of the greatest horror franchises there's ever been, and it had legs to go on. So I'm hoping he'll revive another three. The world certainly wants it, and the fans want it — everybody.
Christian said that he is not presently involved with the prequel, but that he would return to art design for the chance to work on the movie.
I always made only one promise to myself. I said if ever I went back to designing, the only film I would ever want to design is Alien, if Ridley re-did it. I could never understand why they didn't pull him back in [for the sequels].
