High school. Feelings of inadequacy. A family legacy buried in secrecy. Basketball. Redemption. Such are the tenets of the 1985 teen comedy Teen Wolf, starring Michael J. Fox as Scott Howard, a high school student who yearns to be special and soon learns that he is in a way he never expected.
Shot back when werewolf movies didn't have to include vampires and love triangles, Fox was still best known at the time for his work on the family sitcom Family Ties. While Fox famously had to work nights to play Marty McFly in his (even bigger) 1985 hit Back to the Future (released in theaters a month before Teen Wolf), Meredith Baxter-Birney's pregnancy forced a break in Family Ties shooting schedule and allowed Fox to shoot Teen Wolf uninterrupted. The results speak for themselves. Teen Wolf quickly became a sensation when it opened and spawned a 1987 sequel, a short-lived Saturday morning cartoon spin-off and, most recently, a TV show on MTV.
