When pro-Union guerrillas murder his wife and son, a Missouri farmer (Clint Eastwood) lays down his pitchfork and picks up a pair of pistols and joins up with a band of Confederate Bushwackers on a quest for revenge. That's the premise of tonight's MovieMovie, The Outlaw Josey Wales, which is widely considered to be a masterpiece of the Western genre. Eastwood, who also directed The Outlaw Josey Wales after canning original director Philip Kaufman (The Right Stuff), considers the movie to be "one of the high points" of his career in Westerns.
