After watching a truly frightening horror movie, we're often comforted by the knowledge that it was "only a movie," that the twisted, psychotic killer that kept us on the edge of our seats was only a creation of a screenwriter's active imagination. Sometimes, however, truth is stranger — and more terrifying — than fiction. After the demented fantasies of a quiet, unassuming man in rural Wisconsin were brought to light in the 1950s, his heinous crimes traumatized the country and he became the prototype for psycho killers for decades to come, ultimately inspiring three of the greatest horror movies of all time. what's the strange truth behind the fiction? >> Posted 10.31.12 by BrentJS
"Oh, yes, there will be (more) blood!"
It's difficult enough to scare audiences when a movie has an original plot and an unknown killer, but horror movie franchises somehow manage to keep moviegoers coming back for more of the same frights. The immortal killers in the Friday the 13th, Halloween and A Nightmare on Elm Street movies hold a place of prominence in movie history alongside Vulcans, Jedis and British secret agents because of their long-running franchises, while the George A. Romero-style zombies have become ubiquitous. All too often, horror sequels are cheap knock-offs of the original created solely to cash in; however, there are those rare sequels that manage to surpass their predecessors, often by expanding upon the original's mythology or by taking the franchise in another direction. Lock the doors, turn on all of the lights and help us rate the best horror movie sequels.

Helping fans separate fact from fiction when it comes to movie news and speculation is a big part of what we do here at ReelzChannel — for example, The Avengers: What We Know So Far and The Truth and Fiction About Batman 3. We also like watching how real-life stories are adapted for the big screen (The Social Network and 127 Hours).
Not surprisingly, we're fans of the Smithsonian Channel's The Real Story series, which looks at the inspiration and facts behind some of Hollywood's biggest movies. This Sunday, May 15, the third season premieres with The Real Story: Pirates of the Caribbean. As a special offering, Smithsonian Channel has given us that full episode, along with two others from previous seasons, to share with you for a limited time. Enjoy!
