The Big Wedding is opening in theaters nationwide this week, which makes it the perfect time to rank the all-time best movies in the wedding-run-amok rom-com subgenre. Because this type of romantic comedy has been around since the 1930s, there are plenty of contenders, however movies like The Hangover or Wedding Crashers don't really qualify. After all, the movies we're focusing on are both wedding-centric and sweet; rom-coms that we could take our great aunts to, not raunchy, hard-R comedies that we'd watch with our drinking buddies.
So, will it be a Julia Roberts movie that takes the top spot or will a classic black-and-white flick reign supreme? Cast your vote now for the best rom-com to ever tie the knot on the silver screen.

'Tis the season, not only for Valentine's Day, but also that side effect of it, a barrage of chick flicks at the box office.
The chick flick is by nature, shall we say, problematic. First, there's the fact that society has ghettoized a vast lot of movies with a female protagonist under this lovely namesake that instantly implies shallow frivolity, artlessness, and utter commercialism. Secondly, there's the fact that many movies labeled as such do, indeed, deserve to be ghettoized, condemned to the celluloid wasteland, mocked by film students and scholars. Case in point, last weekend's box-office winner, Dear John.
But not all chick flicks need suck. This weekend, there's even hope for a non-sucky one in Valentine's Day (hope being the operative word). With that hope in our hearts, we offer up 10 Chick Flicks That Don't Totally Suck. Heck, many don't even suck at all. Posted 02.10.10 by reelz
