The Final Destination movies are usually about a group of friends who happen to cheat death until it comes to take its revenge, the franchise is no different. The Final Destination, a.k.a. Final Destination 4 was declared the last movie, until it cheated death with a box office take of $181 million dollars worldwide, despite getting panned by critics. NY Magazine reports that one New Line executive called The Final Destination "the worst film of the franchise." And that's not my opinion; that's everyone's opinion.
Part of The Final Destination's success was from 3-D, the first of the franchise to use the format. The other part was the international box office, totaling $116 million of the overall box office. Hoping to continue their success, New Line hired A Nightmare on Elm Street screenwriter Eric Heisserer to help bring the franchise back to basics, and have brought in a director that has experience not only with special effects but 3-D as well.
