The news that pop country singer-songwriter Taylor Swift might be up for the role of Kara Zor-El, the cousin of Superman, in a planned Supergirl movie seemed pretty far-fetched when it was first reported by Ireland On-Line. It seemed an especially strange move for DC Entertainment since company head Diane Nelson had said they did not have "any current plans" for another Superman movie.
Apparently, the news was as outlandish as it sounded. A DC Comics spokesperson was recently asked by Scotland's Sunday Mail if Swift would be donning the classic red-and-blue tights in a live-action movie and the unidentified rep scoffed at the rumor.
That's as clueless a thing as we've heard all year.
Sorry, comic book movie fans. If you're just itching to see Supergirl in live action, you can always hope for a return of Laura Vandervoort as Supergirl on TV's Smallville. Posted 01.05.10 by BrentJS
It's only an unsubstantiated rumor at this point, but Ireland On-Line is reporting that "a source" has revealed that pop country singer-songwriter Taylor Swift is being considered to play Supergirl in a new live-action movie supposedly in development.
A number of young stars are being mentioned for the title role in a Supergirl movie and possible TV spin-off and Taylor is top of that list. She has all the right elements to be a positive role model to young girls.
In the DC comic books, Supergirl's origin has changed many times, and she was even killed off at one point. As in earlier incarnations, the current comic book Supergirl is Kara Zor-El, the cousin of Superman and one of the last survivors of the doomed planet Krypton. Helen Slater played Kara Zor-El in the forgettable 1984 Supergirl movie, and Laura Vandervoort portrayed Supergirl on TV's Smallville. Posted 12.17.09 by BrentJS
