It was announced in June that a sequel to the remake of The Karate Kid was in the works, with Sony taking meetings with writers to find ideas. Looks like they've found the writing duo with the right idea.
THR reports that screenwriters Cyrus Voris and Ethan Reiff, who wrote 2008's Kung Fu Panda have been hired to write the Karate Kid 2 script.
What will happen in the sequel is unknown. The remake took a step away from the 1984 original setting the story in China instead of Los Angeles, and the 1986 sequel shifted from Los Angeles to Okinawa, Japan. Since the remake was set in China, it's possible the sequel could do the reverse and head back Stateside or move to yet another foreign country. Columbia is keeping the plot details a secret for now, likely waiting to see a draft of the screenplay before they reveal anything. MORE >>
