Another one of this weekend's wide releases is The Invisible. It stars Justin Chatwin as Nick Powell, a privilaged high school senior who is everyone's envy on the surface, but underneath an unhappy, mixed up kid ever since his dad's death.
He unwittingly mixes himself up with a gang of school thugs lead by troublemaker Annie Newton (Margarita Levieva) while trying to protect a friend (Chris Marquette). They track him down and beat him to death, but the trick is... he's not actually dead. Powell is now a spirit with a brief amount of time to save his own life before his Earthly body expires.
Now, as lame as the trailer for this looked, I figured David S. Goyer's involvement meant there had to be something more here than appeared. After all, this is the guy that wrote Batman Begins and Blade, right?
But I was wrong. Oh so painfully wrong. The Invisible is absolutely terrible. It is a cliche of a chiche of a cliche. The direction, the characters, the story... bad, bad and bad again. There is nothing likable about this movie. It's predictable, bland and overwelmingly stupid. Do yourself a favor and go see Hot Fuzz or even Next this weekend. Heck, see almost anything else. Roll the dice and you'd probably see a better movie than this.
