While the studios tend to focus on getting their Oscar contenders into theaters in the fall, some movies do actually come out throughout the rest of the year.
So what happens to a good movie released in April? A fall DVD release, of course! Movies like Reign Over Me and Talk to Me are employing well-timed DVD releases to try to catch the eye of the Academy. And David Fincher is releasing a special Director's Cut of last spring's, Zodiac, to try to drum up interest.
But will that be enough? Sasha Stone at Awards Daily thinks Zodiac might score a Cinematography or Visual Effects nod, but that's it, and we'd have agree. Despite its high marks from the critical community, we'd kind of hoped for more from this movie and don't think it has quite enough gusto to break through to Awards land. Time will tell.

It's a big day at the box office, kiddos. For horror fans, there's 28 Weeks Later, for animated fans, there's Surf's Up, for indie fans, there's You Kill Me, and for comedy fans there's Evan Almighty.
But the Reelz.com pick of the week? The underrated Mike Binder drama Reign Over Me, about a man who lost his family on 9/11. Costarring Don Cheadle, Jada Pinkett Smith and Liv Tyler, it is one of the best performances of Adam Sandler's career.

300's bloody box office supremacy will likely come to an end this weekend, with six major releases opening in theaters.
Everyone's favorite mutant amphibians are back -- this time in animated form -- in TMNT. (Sorry -- no Corey Feldman this time around.) Speaking of mutants, those wacky inbred freaks from The Hills Have Eyes return to wreak more havoc in The Hills Have Eyes 2. Mark Wahlberg takes aim at some very bad people in the U.S. government in the political thriller Shooter. In the sci-fi/fantasy epic The Last Mimzy, creepy kids arrive from the future to teach us all about the perils of bad parenting. Adam Sandler shelves his comedy antics in the drama Reign Over Me, about a troubled man who lost his family on 9/11. Academy Award nominee Terrence Howard plays an African-American swimming coach in the underdog sports flick Pride.
