Director Guillermo del Toro and actor Ron Perlman were on hand at the San Diego Comic-Con to promote the upcoming "robots vs. giant monsters" movie Pacific Rim, but couldn't escape the lingering questions of Hellboy 3. Perlman recently endured the painstaking make-up process for the character (something he's admitted that he isn't a fan of) to fulfill a Make a Wish Foundation request of a six year old boy battling leukemia. Del Toro admitted to Entertainment Weekly during the convention that the result of that visit has reinvigorated the director/actor duo's desire to want to make a third installment.
I’ve encountered a lot of kids who are fans of the movies, but to hear the story of this kid who was watching the movies while going through treatment, it really just moved me a lot. I can say publicly that now we are together in trying in that endeavor [to do Hellboy 3], so let's see if somebody finances it.

After director Guillermo del Toro said that studio producers didn't seem "interested in" making a sequel to Hellboy II: The Golden Army, we thought me might never again see Ron Perlman put on the horns and hooves of comic book creator Mike Mignola's most popular creation. But, the tough-guy actor who once complained to del Toro about the six hours in makeup that the part required, has a heart of gold. Perlman recently went through the painstaking process to become the character once more to fulfill one little boy's wish of meeting Hellboy and giving us all one more opportunity to see Hellboy in the (latex) flesh.

Visionary director Guillermo del Toro will begin shooting Pacific Rim "in five weeks." As highly anticipated as the "giant monsters vs. giant robots movie" might be among del Toro fans, many still consider it a poor substitute for his planned adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness, which was shelved back in March after Universal balked at the estimated production budget and R-rating. But del Toro is not giving up hope that At the Mountains of Madness will get off the ground one of these days.

As time goes by, it's beginning to look less and less likely that we will ever see a sequel to Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Back in October 2010, director Guillermo del Toro basically said Hellboy 3 will never happen for a variety of reasons, from creator Mike Mignola's reluctance to let del Toro tell the ending of his character's story, to title star Ron Perlman's extreme dislike of the makeup process to transform him into the "Right Hand of Doom." Perlman sounded a little more interested in reprising the role at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, but del Toro didn't seem to think anything had changed.
Still, comic book movie fans may yet have a chance to see the visionary filmmaker put his unique stamp on another comic book property. In a recent interview with MTV, del Toro discussed everything from being offered the helm of Thor, to the rumors he might be connected to a live-action Doctor Strange movie, to The Hulk TV series he is developing for ABC with Battlestar Gallactica producer David Eick.

To make Hellboy 3, or not to make Hellboy 3: that is the question. And the answer continues to change.
Last August, director Guillermo del Toro said he faced a major obstacle in convincing actor Ron Perlman to spend " six hours [in the makeup chair]". Months later, he said the sequel, basically, was never going to happen.
However, echoing comments he made in January, Perlman told a FilmDistrict panel at the San Diego Comic-Con that he would be ready to put the make-up back on.

If you listened to the last couple interviews that director Guillermo del Toro gave on the subject of a possible sequel to Hellboy II: The Golden Army, you could easily come to the conclusion that we will never see a Hellboy 3. He said in August that he "would love to do it," but mentioned that title star Ron Perlman is content starring in the TV series Sons of Anarchy and taking on other roles that do not require six hours in the makeup chaireach and every day of production. Then, in an interview with MTV in October, del Toro basically implied that the movie is never going to happen and promised to reveal the plot to any interested fans who asked him about it. Now, however, there is at least a ray of hope that we will one day see Hellboy back on the big screen as Perlman has confided to Examiner that he hopes Hellboy 3 will get the green light because "it's worth doing."

Unfortunately for fans of the Hellboy Movie franchise, director Guillermo del Toro has all but admitted that the much-talked-about sequel to Hellboy II: The Golden Army will never happen. Even though del Toro has said on many occasions that he "would love to do" another movie, he has also spoken at length about the many obstacles to Hellboy 3, including resistance from creator Mike Mignola, the fact that title star Ron Perlman is not crazy about once again undergoing the prosthetics process to turn him into Hellboy, and his own reluctance to tell his version of the end of the character. In a recent interview with MTV, del Toro shot down the idea of Hellboy 3 being presented in a comic book format, and basically said that the only way that fans are going to get the story is to find him at a book signing and ask him about it.

Now that Guillermo del Toro is no longer contracted to spend the next several years in New Zealand directing the two-part prequel to The Lord of the Rings franchise, The Hobbit, many fans have been clamoring for him to return to the long-talked-about sequel to Hellboy II: The Golden Army. In a recent interview with MTV, Guillermo said that he "would love to do it," but there are a couple obstacles to that happening, including the fact that title star Ron Perlman is not crazy about the idea of getting back into the makeup chair to transform into Hellboy.

Mike Mignola may not be a name known to many movie fans, but it is a name revered by comic book fans. As an artist on such seminal works as DC's Cosmic Odyssey and Marvel's Wolverine: The Jungle Adventure, and as the creator of Hellboy, Lobster Johnson and the B.P.R.D. for Dark Horse Comics, Mignola has firmly established himself as one of the living legends of the medium. At the recent Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2), Mignola spoke with MTV about handing over "the keys" to his beloved characters to director Guillermo del Toro, how Hellboy II: The Golden Army was different than Hellboy, and what we might expect to see in Hellboy 3.

Yet another DC Comics character is preparing to leap off of the page and onto the big screen. Guillermo del Toro, director of the Hellboy movies (another comic book character), is producing a big-screen adaptation of Deadman, with Nikolaj Arcel (Island of Lost Souls) possibly taking the director's chair.
The character Deadman hasn't had much success in comic book form, so it's unclear how true to the source material del Toro plans to make the picture. In the comic books, circus trapeze artist Boston Brand is "resurrected" as a ghost by a Hindu goddess so that he can seek revenge on his murderer.
