The suprisingly decent killer-vine horror flick The Ruins leads off this week's DVD Tuesday. Also debuting are Kimberly Peirce's (Boys Don't Cry) Iraq War drama Stop-Loss; the comic-book movie parody Superhero Movie; Charlize Theron's indie drama Sleepwalking; and the YouTube-bred 300 parody 305.
Our DVD pick for the week is Batman: Gotham Knight, a collection of six animated short films featuring the Caped Crusader in action. It's the perfect way to get psyched up for the July 18th release of The Dark Knight.
Vegas card-counting flick 21 cashed in over the weekend, earning $23.7 million and unseating Horton Hears a Who! from the top spot at the box office. The Dr. Seuss animated flick still earned an impressive $17.4 million in its third week in release, well ahead of third-place finisher Superhero Movie's $9.5 million debut. Rounding out the top five were Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns and Drillbit Taylor, which earned $7.8 million and $5.8 million, respectively.
The Scary Movie creators take aim at comic bookflicks with their new parody Superhero Movie. Spider-Man, Batman, Superman, theX-Men and Tom Cruise are just a few of the characters who get roasted in this outrageous new comedy.
