Debuting today on DVD is the card-counting thriller 21, directed by Robert Luketic and starring Kevin Spacey, Kate Bosworth and Jim Sturgess. It's inspired by Burning Down the House, author Ben Mezrich's true story of six MIT students who earned millions by mastering the game of blackjack. Fans of the book were generally disappointed with 21's emphasis of style over substance (hence the "inspired by" label), but the flick proved a success with theatergoers, earning over $80 million at the domestic box office.
21's two-disc Special Edition DVD adds a bit more substance to the style, with an in-depth look at the art and science of card-counting. It's definitely worth a look -- whether or not you're an aspiring card shark.
