Kellan Lutz, now most famous for his role as Emmett Cullen in The Twilight Saga movies, is rumored to be joining the cast of 2010's A Nightmare on Elm Street -- a modern remake of the popular '80s horror flick.
Lutz is no stranger to the horror genre, as he appeared in 2008's low-budget slash-fest Prom Night, which was -- surprise, surprise -- another '80s retelling gone bad. He's scheduled to play a "popular high school jock," which sounds similar to his recent part in the revamped version of 90210. He pulled that off quite convincingly, so it shouldn't be too much of a challenge for him.
Also rumored to be joining him are Thomas Dekker (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) and Kyle Gallner (The Haunting in Connecticut, Veronica Mars). Do we really need another horror movie remake? It's the same formula every time: hot, young cast + modern setting = box-office failure. Still, maybe this one will fare better. After all, no one can pull a crowd like a Twilight actor can.

It's all about teens and tweens this week on DVDTuesday. Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour,featuring a special cameo from those dreamy Jonas Brothers, leads the pack,followed by the high school horror remake Prom Night. Alsoarriving on DVD: Keanu Reeves and Forest Whitaker star in the bloody crimethriller Street Kings; Burt Reynolds shows us his bestpoker face in Deal; the Mummyfranchise goes straight-to-video with the spin-off sequel The ScorpionKing 2: Rise of a Warrior; and Uma Thurman and Evan Rachel Wood starin Vadim Perelman's The Life Before Her Eyes.

Brittany Snow's critically maligned horror remake, Prom Night, tooks tops at the box office this weekend with an estimated $22.7 million. The weekend's other new wide release, the urban thriller Street Kings, hit second place with a $12 million take. 21 scored strong numbers for the third straight weekend to take third place with $11 million. This brings 21's total gross up to $62 million making it one of 2008's most successful films thus far. Rounding out the top five were Nim's Island with $9 mil and Leatherheads with $6.2.

Horror movie villains are often modeled after real-life figures. As most genre fans know, the famously creepy mask worn by Halloween's iconic villain Michael Myers was actually a store-bought William Shatner mask, its hair teased out and face spray-painted white.
Bearing that in mind, it's hard not to notice that the murderous stalker of the new slasher flick Prom Night bears a remarkable resemblance to a certain chronically underemployed, astoundingly fecund former beau of tabloid queen Britney Spears. Did Prom Night's producers intentionally model villain Johnathon Schaech's baseball-hat-and-five-o'clock-shadow ensemble after Kevin Federline?
