Yes, the holiday we all love to hate is nearly upon us, and what better way to celebrate it than with an ode to that cinematic sub-genre everyone loves to hate: the chick flick. It's easy to hate the so-called chick flick, especially if you wasted your hard earned cash and two plus hours on He's Just Not That Into You last weekend, or have ever found yourself on a transatlantic flight with nothing more than Made of Honor playing on a small screen to entertain you. But it doesn't have to be that way.
As with any type of movie, the chick flick can be done right, just as the Oscar grubbing prestige pics can be done wrong (see: Revolution Road). So, as our Valentine's gift to you, we offer you this collection of 10 Chick Flicks That Don't Totally Suck. Many don't suck even a little. Posted 02.12.09 by reelz
Two of this summer's biggest box-office flops, theWachowski Brothers' trippy update of Speed Racer and MikeMyers' disastrously ill-advised comedy The Love Guru, headline this week's DVD Tuesday. Also debuting today: the romantic comedy Madeof Honor, featuring a Michelle Monaghan and a kilt-wearing Dr.McDreamy; Young@Heart, the acclaimed documentary about agroup of senior citizens who sing cotemporary rock songs; and Special Editionre-releases of Risky Business, Weird Science, and Beetlejuice.
Our DVD pick for the week is 88 Minutes, starring Al Pacino as a blustery forensic psychiatrist haunted by one of thekillers he put away. Check out its alternate ending and see if it improves onthe (somewhat lame) original. Posted 09.16.08 by reelz
Iron Man earned $101 million over the weekend, shrugging aside naysayers who fretted that the release of the video game Grand Theft Auto IV mind hinder its sales at the box office. Add receipts from Thursday and Jon Favreau's comic book flick is already over $104 million. Not surprisingly, The Hollywood Reporter reports that Marvel has already picked a release date for Iron Man 2: April 30, 2010. Look for an Iron Man 2 teaser trailer sometime next month.
Among movies not named Iron Man, Patrick Dempsey's romantic comedy Made of Honor reigned supreme, earning $15.5 million in its opening weekend. Tina Fey's surrogate mother comedy Baby Mama grabbed the third spot with a $10.3 million take, followed by Forgetting Sarah Marshall at $6.1 million. Rounding out the top five was Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, which earned $6 million in its second week in release.

If explosions, special effects and witty remarks from Robert Downey Jr. aren't your cinematic cup of tea, then the romantic comedy Made of Honor might just be made to order for you. Patrick Dempsey (Enchanted, TV's Grey's Anatomy) stars as a raffish bachelor who falls for his newly engaged best friend (played by Michelle Monaghan) and schemes to convince her to reconsider before she takes her vows.
Does Dr. McDreamy have a shot at taking down Iron Man at the box office? Check out our Made of Honor review. Posted 05.01.08 by reelz
Can anything stand in the way of the box office juggernaut that is Iron Man this weekend? Some industry analysts have posited that tomorrow's much anticipated release of the video game Grand Theft Auto IV has the potential to cut into the flick's gross, with gamers possibly too preoccupied with cruising the virtual streets of Liberty City to head out to the movies.
But Iron Man's greatest competition could very well come from inside the Cineplex. Positioned not-so-subtly as counter-programming for non-comic book fans (read: women) is the Patrick Dempsey romantic comedy Made of Honor. Unlike Lucky You, the poorly reviewed gambling drama offered up as cannon fodder last year for Spider-Man 3, Made of Honor actually has some pretty good buzz going for it. Does it have a shot at besting Iron Man? No way, but it could have enough in the tank to prevent Robert Downey Jr.'s armor-clad superhero from breaking box office records.
