"Super" star Bruce Willis' new comic book-inspired movie, Red (set to begin principal photography in January), has just had its release date moved up from November 19 to October 22. Summit Entertainment has not issued an explanation for the move. Typically, a release date change is made to avoid competition with other movies, but the new date has Red opening against Lionsgate's Saw VII and Warner's Prisoners.
Based on the three-issue, limited comic book series created by writer Warren Ellis and artist Cully Hamner, Red tells the story of a retired CIA Agent (Willis) targeted for assassination by the very agency he used to work for. When the agent realizes his life is forfeit, he goes "red" and decides to strike back.
Robert Schwentke (The Time Traveler's Wife) will direct from a script adapted by Erich and Jon Hoeber (Whiteout). The Red cast also boasts Academy Award-winning actors Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, Richard Dreyfuss, and Ernest Borgnine. Posted 12.20.09 by BrentJS
