Lionsgate used its Twitter page, which is quickly becoming the movie industry standard for updating progress on upcoming movies, to give some "Twitter exclusive" news on two of their upcoming movies:
***twitter exclusive*** KICK-ASS releases 4/16/10... EXPENDABLES arrive 8/20/10... and GAMER hits theaters THIS FRIDAY!!!
Don't worry, Lionsgate isn't mad at you, those capital letters are for emphasis. April is pretty close to Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaugh's assertion that the movie would arrive "early ."
When The Expendables opens in August, writer/director Sylvester Stallone may already be finished with Rambo 5.
And Gamer opens Friday, in case you missed it. Posted 09.02.09 by Ryan
Variety reports that Sylvester Stallone is returning as John Rambo for a fifth time. Stallone will also direct the movie, just like he did for 2008's Rambo.
The end of Rambo found Stallone back in the United States, but in the fifth installment Rambo will head south of the U.S. border to fight drug lords and human traffickers to rescue a young, kidnapped girl. And since the last movie went back to the original moniker, we can't help but wonder what this one will be called. Rambo II? Rambo: Third Blood Part II? Just plain Rambo again?
Rambo 5 (or II, or whatever) will start production next spring. Currently, Stallone is finishing post-production on The Expendables, a movie filled with action stars like Jason Statham, Jet Li, and recent addition Bruce Willis. Posted 08.31.09 by Ryan
The new ultra-violent ensemble flick from writer-director-actor Sylvester Stallone, The Expendables already includes an incredible cast of silver-screen tough guys — Mickey Rourke, Jet Li, Jason Statham, and Dolph Lundgren. Recently, another action star was added to that list: Mr. Die Hard himself, Bruce Willis.
Willis told MTV that he has not been on set yet, but that he is opening up space in his schedule to shoot a cameo with Stallone and the "Governator," Arnold Schwarzenegger.
I'm waiting for a call from Sly about when we're going to try and make that happen.... I don't know anything about (my character) yet, haven't seen any pages yet. But, I'm excited about it.
The Expendables also features Steve Austin , Terry Crews, and former UFC champion Randy Couture. Posted 08.19.09 by BrentJS
When Mickey Rourke was added to The Expendables, the action movie written, directed and starring Sylvester Stallone alongside Jet Li, Jason Statham, Randy Couture, and Dolph Lundgren, it seemed the only action stars left out of the cast were Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jean-Claude Van Damme. Now it's just Van Damme that's left out. According to AintItCoolNews, Schwarzenegger will be joining to play a small role in the movie, but while Van Damme will not appear, Eric Roberts will, taking over for Ben Kingsley as a CIA operative.
So, with so many action stars in the movie, why isn't Van Damme in the movie? Apparently, Stallone did offer Van Damme a role, but he turned it down.
Stallone gave me a part in his next movie," he told us. "But I ask him about the subject, about the story. He said, ‘You’re gonna make lots of money.’ I don’t want to hear that, I want to hear what was my character. He was unable to tell what it’s going to be. [Stallone said:] 'You know, uh, well, the fighting will be good.' [So I said:] 'Sly, what is my character?' So I didn’t do the movie.
The Expendables starts shooting next month with Stallone currently working on the script and "struggling to nail the right tonal balance of humor, action and emotional reality." Of course he is. Posted 02.18.09 by Ryan
Don't call it a comeback, but Mickey Rourke is about to have a very busy schedule. After agreeing to join the cast of The Expendables, The Wrestler star is in talks to join the hit sequel Iron Man 2. While it seems Rourke will play a villain, which villain he will play is uncertain.
According to the The Hollywood Reporter, Rourke will play "a tattooed Russian heavy named Ivan who becomes Whiplash, a man with deadly, technologically enhanced coils," while Variety reports that Rourke will play the Crimson Dynamo, "a heavily tattooed Russian arms dealer" who fights in a nuclear powered suit of armor. Either way, Rourke will be tattooed and Russian.
Sam Rockwell will also play a villain, a multibillionaire rival of Tony Stark named Justin Hammer. Both parts are consistent with a recent casting notice that called for a Russian "bruiser" (Rourke?), and a "brilliant, gritty Eastern European" (Rockwell).
The part of Natasha, Tony Stark's assistant and The Black Widow, is still up for grabs, says The Hollywood Reporter. Posted 01.08.09 by Ryan
Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables star-studded cast is adding a potential Oscar winner. The Wrestler's Mickey Rourke is set to join the production that already has Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Randy Couture, Dolph Lundgren and recently announced Forest Whitaker set to star in the action movie. Variety reports Rourke will play an arms dealer that becomes a liason to a group of mercenaries that are trying to bring down a South American dictator.
Production begins in Brazil in March with Stallone directing from his own script. Posted 01.07.09 by Ryan
