Though it won't open until the end of the month, the promotional campaign for director Jon Favreau's new sci-fi and Western mash-up, Cowboys and Aliens has taken a more aggressive tack.
Last week, Universal Pictures released more than a dozen images of the upcoming movie, as well as two preview clips. The first preview clip showed the movie's protagonist, Jake Lonergan (Daniel Craig), having trouble committing to the truce between himself and Colonel Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford), who try to put their issues aside when aliens invade the town of Absolution, Arizona in 1873. The second preview clip showed Lonergan in action, chasing down a spaceship while on horseback. This week, two more preview clips have arrived online, which show both sides of the genres that Cowboys and Aliens borrows from.

Just as director Jon Favreau showed his appreciation to the fans that helped propel his career to new heights with the success of Iron Man by revealing never-before-seen footage from his new movie, Cowboys and Aliens, at the WonderCon earlier this year, Favreau will give even more back to his loyal fans this week by hosting the worldwide premiere of the movie at the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC). But even if you can't make it to San Diego for the advanced screening, you can still see more of James Bond (Daniel Craig) and Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) riding side-by-side through a dusty Wild West landscape in pursuit of body snatching aliens before the premiere thanks to the large selection of new still images from the movie that Universal recently released. Unfortunately, while there are plenty of shots of cowboys and at least one cowgirl (Olivia Wilde), there is nary an alien to be found.

Harrison Ford's upcoming role of Colonel Dolarhyde in Cowboys and Aliens seems like a perfect fit for Ford — he gets to wear a hat, he fights aliens, the character is an antihero — but the movie is set in 1873 Arizona, making it Ford's first Western since 1979's The Frisco Kid. Ford had been looking for Western, the actor told Extra, but still, he almost didn't take the role.
I ready thirty pages and threw it across the room and said, "What the hell is this? There's nothing in this for me! I'm an actor!" Anyway, I told my agent, "Listen, I know there's not a lot going around these days, but..." [And] he said, "Go back and read the rest of it." And I did, and — I've always been looking for a Western — and, as I got deeper into it I sensed the complexity of the ambition of the piece a little more and I went and talked with Jon [Favreau] and I talked with the writers and I met with Daniel [Craig], and I was impressed with all of them and their ambition and also with their willingness to collaborate to make the whole thing better working together.

The first preview clip from director Jon Favreau's (Iron Man, Iron Man 2) new sci-fi and Western mash-up, Cowboys and Aliens, was released yesterday and it showed that, even though Jake Lonergan (Daniel Craig) can't remember who he is or why he is wearing an alien weapon around his wrist, he still knows how to throw a punch, especially when it is aimed at Colonel Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford), the big man in the little town of Absolution who wants to put Lonergan in chains. Now, a second preview clip has been released that shows that Longergan remembers more than just fisticuffs as he chases down a fleeing alien spaceship on horseback in order to rescue Ella (Olivia Wilde), one of the few people in Absolution to show him some compassion.

Just a couple more weeks before Jon Favreau's Cowboys & Aliens hits theaters, and in the past month or so, Universal has unveiled several trailers and some TV spots. Now it appears we finally have a peek at one of the scenes. Yahoo! Movies posted the first official clip, which features Daniel Craig as amnesiac criminal Jake Lonergan and Harrison Ford as the craggy, hard-headed Colonel Dolarhyde.
The story is that Dolarhyde originally pursued Lonergan, but must join him when the town is threatened by alien attacks. In the following clip, Ford tells Craig that "You owe me". The two men then "discuss" things diplomatically, as only they could in a movie called Cowboys & Aliens. Look for more action like this when the movie opens July 29.

With a scene-stealing performance as Quorra in Tron: Legacy last year and a starring role in Cowboys and Aliens this summer, Olivia Wilde seems poised to take the title of sci-fi queen away from Sigourney Weaver. However, things could have turned out quite differently for the 27-year-old actress if she had landed the role of James Bond's (Daniel Craig) love interest, Vesper Lynd, in director Martin Campbell's Casino Royale, a role that she wanted "so badly," but which ultimately went to British actress Eva Green. In a recent interview with Total Film Magazine, Wilde said that she is "happy it didn't work out" on Casino Royale because then she "wouldn't have been able to do" Cowboys and Aliens alongside Craig. She said the sci-fi and Western mash-up movie is "a better pairing" for her and Craig and that she learned a great deal about acting by working with the once-and-future James Bond.

Universal has released a third theatrical trailer for director Jon Favreau's (Iron Man, Iron Man 2) latest movie, Cowboys and Aliens, a sci-fi and Western mash-up based on Scott Mitchell Rosenberg's Platinum Studios graphic novel of the same name about an alien invasion of the American Southwest in the 1800s. The new trailer is slightly shorter in length than the previous trailer, but it does contain a few snippets of never-before-seen footage, including more of Daniel Craig as Jake Lonergan, a wanted man with no memory of his past and a mysterious alien shackle around his wrist that may be the key to the survival of the human race.

Universal has unveiled a new theatrical poster for director Jon Favreau's (Iron Man, Iron Man 2) upcoming genre-mashed movie, Cowboys and Aliens. The poster effectively combines heroic poses and a simple tagline (with a little help from blue-orange contrast and a few anamorphic lens flares thrown in for good measure) to perfectly illustrate what the movie is about: a battle for survival between hardened denizens of the Old West — played by the likes of James Bond (Daniel Craig), Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford), and Tron: Legacy's Quorra (Olivia Wilde) — and a race of invading aliens.

This truly is the summer of the comic book movie, with four adaptations — Priest, Thor, X-Men: First Class and Green Lantern — having already debuted and two more — Captain America: The First Avenger and Cowboys and Aliens — on the way. With the exception of X-Men: First Class, this summer's comic book heroes are relatively unknown quantities outside of the comic book community, but the one that truly stands apart from the rest is the sci-fi and Western mash-up, Cowboys and Aliens. There are no power rings, magic hammers or mutant powers in this movie, only hard-living settlers, cowboys, gunslingers and Native Americans who agree to put aside their differences to combat imperialistic aliens.
Universal has been trying to get the word out about its unique comic book movie in recent weeks, releasing a series of TV spots, a new trailer, and a poster that plays up the fact that living legend Harrison Ford has a supporting role alongside Daniel Craig. Now, Universal has released a featurette for the movie that touches on the movie's comic book origins and contains the first behind-the-scenes footage from the set of the movie, with commentary from executive producer Steven Spielberg, producer Ron Howard and producers-writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman.

A new theatrical poster has just been released for director Jon Favreau's new movie, Cowboys and Aliens, that brings Harrison Ford to the force fore, placing the fan-favorite actor right next to headliner Daniel Craig when nearly all of the previous posters for the sci-fi and Western mash-up movie featured Craig alone. Ford is also featured prominently in the new TV spot, with his character, Colonel Dolarhyde, presented as more of a partner to Craig's Jake Lonergan in their battle against imperialistic aliens, rather than simply as a resentful ally of necessity.
