After a January that only offered a poster or two, some new footage — 9 seconds — of Walt Disney Pictures' adaptation of John Carter was revealed in a Super Bowl TV Spot preview. With the Big Game and full spot still a few days away, at least more new footage can be seen in a recently released featurette.
Based on The Princess of Mars, the first novel in pulp fiction author Edgar Rice Burroughs's 11-volume Barsoom (Mars) series, the movie follows John Carter (Taylor Kitsch) as he goes from being a Civil War veteran to inexplicably waking up with newfound abilities on Mars. There he's quickly embroiled in a conflict between the planet's inhabitants.

Super Bowl XLVI is less than a week away and for football fans who also happen to be movie fans that means a one-two punch of athletics at its finest and a windfall of new TV spots for upcoming movies. While it's impossible to get a preview of the action in the big game, Walt Disney Pictures has provided a sneak peek at the TV spot for John Carter that will air during the game.
An adaptation of the first novel in legendary pulp fiction author Edgar Rice Burroughs's 11-volume Barsoom (Mars) series, the movie stars Taylor Kitsch as the title character, a Civil War veteran who finds himself possessed of incredible abilities after mysteriously being transported to Mars. Though the TV spot preview is short, it does include never-before-seen footage of some of the wonders in store for Carter upon his arrival on Mars.

A pair of new international movie posters for two of this year's biggest sci-fi movies have been released online. Disney has put together a poster for the Japanese release of John Carter that plays up the sci-fi angle while playing down the fantasy elements by placing title actor Taylor Kitsch in the foreground in John Carter's Earthly attire, with flying machines and an alien cityscape in the background, rather than the John Carter-as-barbarian fighting, riding, or fleeing from monsters images that have characterized the domestic posters.
John Carter was written (with Michael Chabon) and directed by two-time Academy Award-winner Andrew Stanton (Wall-E) and is based on the first novel in Edgar Rice Burroughs' 11-volume Barsoom (Mars) series about a Civil War veteran (Kitsch) who is mysteriously transported to the red planet and quickly becomes involved in a conflict between warring races. The cast includes Lynn Collins as Dejah Thoris, James Purefoy as Kantos Kan, Samantha Morton as Sola, Dominic West as Sab Than, Willem Dafoe as Tars Tarkas, Thomas Haden Church as Tal Hajus, Polly Walker as Sarkoja, Ciarán Hinds as Tardos Mors, Mark Strong as Matai Shang, and Bryan Cranston as Powell. It opens opens March 9th (April 13th in Japan).

Disney hyped director Andrew Stanton's (Wall-E) new movie, John Carter, all throughout the month of December, releasing new posters, debuting the first trailer, airing multiple TV spots and even having title star Taylor Kitsch (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) show up on Good Morning America to talk about the movie.
It now appears as if Disney is satisfied that domestic moviegoers are in-the-know about the upcoming sci-fi epic, because the focus of the promotional campaign for the movie has shifted to targeting potential audiences overseas. A Japanese trailer turned up online several weeks ago that contained new footage of Carter's time on Earth and journey to Mars, and now a Spanish-language teaser poster has been released that shows Carter riding across the Martian landscape with Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe), Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins) and his loyal "dog" Woola in tow.

Disney's adaptation of John Carter was originally titled John Carter of Mars which revealed right away that the red planet was going to involved in some way. The teaser trailer and first feature-length trailer have all focused on Civil War veteran Carter (X-Men Origins: Wolverine's Taylor Kitsch) and his adventures after he is mysteriously transported to Mars. A recent TV spot at least briefly revealed Carter's first moments on the planet, but none of the promotional materials have spent too much time back in Carter's time on Earth. That is, until AICN found a Japanese trailer that finally reveals some bits from Carter's life before being transported to Mars.
The trailer also includes a narrative device used by author Edgar Rice Burroughs, the author that created the pulp hero. In The Princess of Mars, his first novel using the character, the story was said to be true and was passed on to Burroughs for publication 21 years later. In the trailer, Burroughs (Daryl Sabara, Spy Kids) is Carter's nephew and the movie is a retelling of Carter's private journals.

The first feature-length trailer for Disney's adaptation of John Carter was released at the beginning of the month, and already two new TV spots have arrived online offering new footage of the movie that includes even more action than was revealed in the recent trailer and certainly more than the teaser trailer.
John Carter is based on the pulp hero created by author Edgar Rice Burroughs and follows Civil War veteran Carter (X-Men Origins: Wolverine's Taylor Kitsch) who is mysteriously transported to the planet of Mars. Once there, he finds he has new abilities he did not have on Earth, and becomes reluctantly embroiled in the conflict raging between the planet's inhabitants.
The first TV spot is almost exclusively battle and fight scenes from the movie, one of which sees Woola, Carter's six-legged pet and bodyguard, stand by him as an oncoming horde of combatants head toward them.

The trickle of new John Carter promotional materials being released by Disney over the past week culminated with the recent appearance of title star Taylor Kitsch on Good Morning America to discuss the movie and introduce the new trailer, which was later released online in its entirety. But, Disney is not stopping at a new trailer, releasing three epic new banner posters featuring some of the movie's otherworldly characters, creatures and locales.

The first full trailer for Disney's adaptation of John Carter (formerly John Carter of Mars) has arrived online, and it looks every bit the epic adventure fans have been expecting since the teaser trailer was released in July.
Based on the pulp hero created by author Edgar Rice Burroughs, John Carter follows Civil War veteran Carter (X-Men Origins: Wolverine's Taylor Kitsch) as he is mysteriously transported to the planet of Mars and becomes embroiled in the conflict raging between the planet's inhabitants. Fans of the Burroughs novels noted that an official still revealed a great White Ape, introduced in Burrough's first John Carter novel, A Princess of Mars, and the trailer shows Carter's confrontation with the giant beast in the trailer's opening moments.

There was a bit of a lull in John Carter (formerly John Carter of Mars) news following the release of the first teaser trailer in July and the debut of three preview clips at Disney's D23 convention in August. However, Disney appears to have turned the promotional spigot for the movie from "off" to "trickle" with the release of the first still image last week, six more new images a few days later and now a new teaser poster for the movie featuring Taylor Kitsch as Edgar Rice Burroughs' classic planet-lost pulp hero.

The first still image from Disney's John Carter (formerly John Carter of Mars) was released online a couple of days ago, and we now have six more new still images from writer (with Michael Chabon) and director Andrew Stanton's live-action/CGI adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' classic pulp hero, courtesy of SFX. The new stills are not of the best quality, but they do feature new images of the title hero (Taylor Kitsch), the Barsoomian (Martian) princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins), and Carter's fearsome comrade, the multi-limbed and green-skinned Tars Tarkas (motion-capture by Willem Dafoe), not seen in the trailer. Additionally, John Carter's six-legged pet and bodyguard, Woola, is revealed for the very first time.
