After 2010's Salt earned almost $300 million at the box office, Sony Pictures is looking to put together a sequel. Deadline reports that the studio has hired Salt screenwriter Kurt Wimmer to start writing a sequel.
The Phillip Noyce-directed action movie starred Angelina Jolie as a CIA agent that is hunted down by her own agency after they think she is a Russian sleeper agent who wants to kill the president. Reportedly, Jolie wants to take part in the sequel (unlike a Wanted sequel), as long as the script comes together well.
Noyce's involvement in a sequel is unknown, as the movie is only in script stage. Posted 06.06.11 by Ryan

Bomb of the Week: The Zac Efron experiment with drama went horribly wrong as Charlie St. Cloud had the indignity of earning less in its opening weekend than Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore. Posted 08.02.10 by reelz

Angelina Jolie's superagent Evelyn Salt has been compared to Jason Bourne and even James Bond. That's elite company. So far the critics seem split on whether Salt is very good or just OK.

"Highly satisfying, often exhilarating, refreshingly unpretentious..."— Karina Longworth, Village Voice
"While preposterous at every turn, Salt is a better Bond movie than most recent Bond movies, as its makers keep the stunts real and severely limit CGI gimmickry."— Kirk Honeycutt, Hollywood Reporter
"The movie is fun, dammit. So who cares, really, if it's trash?"— Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly
"While the plot is outlandish, it unspools with obvious twists and turns. The film has its tense moments, but instead of dazzle, there's a workmanlike quality to the action sequences. And the dialogue is hampered by a clichéd script."— Claudia Puig, USA Today
"...a brisk, professionally assembled but finally shrug-inducing thriller..."— Justin Chang, Variety
Can you detect fugitive spies solely by their hotness factor? In Salt, Angelina Jolie is a CIA officer who goes on the run when she's accused — maybe falsely, maybe not — of being a Russian sleeper agent tasked with assassinating the president. But she's not the only one who's had to hit this particular road: Some 50 years ago, the dashing Cary Grant was mistaken for an American spy and had to scour the country to find his doppelganger. Thus airlines, car rental agencies, and Amtrak remain solvent.

The first clip from the spy thriller Salt recently debuted and now three more clips have been released. Angelina Jolie stars as Evelyn Salt, a CIA agent accused of being a Russian sleeper agent. Cut off from friends and family and hunted by her former colleagues, Salt desperately tries to evade capture long enough to clear her name and stop the real spy from assassinating the president. Think The Bourne Identity, but with more sex appeal. see the 3 new clips and more >> Posted 07.10.10 by BrentJS
The first non-trailer clip from Angelina Jolie's new movie, Salt, is now online and it shows just how resourceful her character, CIA agent Evelyn Salt, really is. Directed by Phillip Noyce (Catch a Fire), the movie follows Salt as she is hunted by her own agency after being accused of being a Russian sleeper agent bent on assassinating the president. In this clip, Salt has just been "outed" and decides to run rather than try to explain herself, using whatever items are at her disposal to stop the highly-trained and heavily-armed agents from bringing her in. Turns out there was some truth to last week's E Online "dish" that Angelina Jolie wants to direct a "feature film about refugees." That said, she does not want to direct Brad Pitt as originally reported. Today's update has an unnamed insider explaining:
Angelina definitely wants to direct a film, and make this film. She just doesn't want to do it with Brad anymore.
The thought of directing Brad as the lead with another woman started to drive Angelina crazy. It's not going to happen anymore with him.
Jolie can next be seen — in front of the camera — as an accused Russian spy in Salt, which opens July 23. Posted 07.07.10 by reelz
Paramount had their upcoming Dinner for Schmucks set for a July 23rd release, next to the Angelina Jolie action movie Salt, the Beverly Cleary kids novel adaptation of Ramona and Beezus, and the second week of Christopher Nolan's Inception. Apparently Paramount now thinks that weekend is too competitive. Instead, Deadline reports, Schmucks has been moved to July 30, just a week later, where its biggest competition will be Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore 3D (plus, it won't be up against Ramona and Beezus anymore, right?). Steve Carrell & Paul Rudd Will have to wait >> Posted 06.11.10 by Ryan
