Buried opened two weeks ago on a few screens and goes wide this weekend. In spite of the entire movie happening inside a shallow grave, it apparently works pretty well.

Actor Ryan Reynolds' new movie opening this week, the claustrophobia-inducing dramatic thriller Buried, couldn't be more different from the movie he recently wrapped, the superhero space opera Green Lantern. Whereas Green Lantern is a giant studio effects movie with a cast of hundreds of (mostly digital) characters in which he plays a man very much in control—a test pilot with a power ring that grants him nearly unlimited powers, including flight, force fields and energy projection—Buried is a micro-budgeted independent movie with only a handful of cast members and his character is a man with virtually no control over his situation—a private contractor in Iraq who wakes to find himself buried alive with only a cell phone and a lighter.

Actor Ryan Reynolds has admitted that he still finds it difficult to watch himself in director Rodrigo Cortés’ upcoming claustrophobic thriller Buried, since he spent most of the 17-day shoot inside a wooden box. The latest TV spot from Yahoo! shows off Cortés' ability to create tension in a small space, as Reynolds tries desperately to find a way out of his underground predicament.

Director Rodrigo Cortés’ upcoming thriller Buried was shot in Barcelona in only 17 days with Ryan Reynolds spending most of the shoot inside a wooden box. In fact, the entire 94 minutes sees Reynolds, who plays a private contractor in Iraq who finds himself buried alive with only his cell phone and a lighter, inside the coffin trying to understand how he ended up in his situation and how he can get out. Reynolds told The LA Times that the movie required him to "do things that as a man we don’t usually show," as a character that he described as "vulnerable and raw." Reynolds says that he still finds the movie difficult to watch.

The previous trailer for Rodrigo Cortés' upcoming thriller Buried didn't offer much new footage, but considering the movie takes place in a coffin where Ryan Reynolds has been buried alive, it may be hard to offer much more than they have so far. Reynolds plays Paul Conroy, a private contractor in the Middle East who wakes up with only his cell phone and a lighter buried underground. The trailer alludes to a conspiracy surrounding his capture, but saves the rest for those that see the movie in limited release on September 24. Buried opens in wide release on October 8.

A series of new still images and set photos from Spanish director Rodrigo Cortés’ (The Contestant) independent thriller, Buried, has just been released. Considering the movie is basically a one-man-show starring Ryan Reynolds as a private contractor in Iraq who wakes up to himself buried alive with only a cell phone and a lighter, it should come as no surprise that virtually every image is basically Reynolds in a box. Still, if you’re a fan of Reynolds, or just curious about how Cortés shot those "underground" scenes, you’ll want to check these out.

Ryan Reynolds was recently revealed in his Green Lantern costume, but before that movie comes out next year, Reynolds is appearing in director Rodrigo Cortés's upcoming thriller Buried. In the movie, Reynolds plays a private contractor in Iraq who awakes to find that he is buried alive. The latest trailer takes advantage of the high praise the movie is getting from critics in a style similar to that of Alfred Hitchcock.
