Icky, nasty, calculatingly odd and a little funny, though more often strained and inadvertently absurd...

A funeral director isn't normally expected to have a reassuring bedside manner. And indeed in this claustrophobic first look at the psychological thriller After.Life, a young accident victim (Christina Ricci) wakes up — after a fashion — on the slab, to find herself under the care of funeral director Eliot Deacon (Liam Neeson), whose creepy advice and evident control issues don't exactly inspire confidence. He claims that he is helping her transition between life and death, but she can't help but suspect he is intent on burying her alive. Meanwhile, her grief-stricken boyfriend (Justin Long) soon finds reasons of his own to wonder what the hell is going on.
