Director Xavier Gens' (Hitman) new post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller, The Divide, was a big hit at last year's South By Southwest Film Festival (SXSW), but after winning the U.S. distribution rights to the movie in a bidding war on the last day of the festival, Anchor Bay has been indecisive about the movie's release date. After initially setting a wide theatrical release for Oct. 15, 2011, Anchor Bay announced that The Divide would be opening on Jan. 10 of this year. Now, the release has been pushed back yet again, to Jan. 13, and downgraded to a limited release.
Written by first-time feature writers Karl Mueller and Eron Sheean, The Divide takes place in New York City in the aftermath of a cataclysmic explosion. Seeking refuge in a converted fallout shelter designed by the building's paranoid superintendent (Michael Biehn), eight strangers are forced to band together to stay alive against the devastation outside, the mysterious gun-toting men in HAZMAT uniforms who seek to eliminate them. Milo Ventimiglia, Lauren German and Rosanna Arquette also star.
