The first preview clip from the fourth chapter in Walt Disney Pictures' popular Pirates franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, was released last week. Now, Disney has released two new high-def still images from the movie — a heroic shot of Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow and a "stranger" still of the creepy British royal seen in the aforementioned preview clip, and a behind-the-scenes shot of director Rob Marshall (Chicago) giving Depp some direction. more about Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides >> Posted 05.10.11 by BrentJS
Entering the summer fray at the end of the month is Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the fourth installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. The previous three movies have been a multi-billion dollar industry for Disney, so there's really no surprise that a fifth and sixth installment were reported to be in the works at the end of last year. A month later, screenwriter Terry Rossio, who co-wrote all four Pirates movies with Ted Elliot, was hired to write a fifth Pirates.
As for the movies' popularity, the obvious culprit is Johnny Depp, whose character of Captain Jack Sparrow became an instant figure in pop culture. In an interview with HitFix, Depp admitted he was as surprised as anyone at the success of the Pirates trilogy.
Depp to play Sparrow for a long time >> Posted 05.06.11 by Ryan
It's not my fault. I did my best. Even to the point of trying to get fired on the first one, but they couldn't bring themselves to do it. No, it's kind of interesting to experience that kind of ride after, well, essentially 20 years of enjoying a career based on failures and then suddenly something clicks. The weird thing is I never changed a thing. The process is still the process as it ever was. The fact people decide to see a movie I was in was probably the most shocking thing I've ever been through.
After releasing a trilogy of successful Pirates of the Caribbean movies, audiences have an idea of what to expect in Disney's beloved franchise, which is why the studio is upping the ante with mermaids and zombies for the fourth installment, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
On Stranger Tides will still feature the adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), this time in pursuit of the Fountain of Youth. The first clip of the sequel has Sparrow jumping and swashbuckling his way from Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush). watch the clip >> Posted 05.04.11 by Ryan
Despite the fact that superstar Johnny Depp and his character, Captain Jack Sparrow, are far and away the biggest draws of Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean movies, the studio has been spotlighting two of the newest additions to the franchise in recent weeks. Spanish-French model and actress Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey joins the cast as the mermaid Syrena, and her character has been featured in the latest trailer, in the new TV spot and posters, and even in some promotional concept art.
While receiving decidedly less coverage than Bergès-Frisbey, new addition Sam Claflin, who plays Philip, a missionary captured by Blackbeard (Ian McShane) who wants to stop the notorious pirate from using Syrena in his scheme to gain eternal life, has also appeared in recent footage from the movie. He even turned up with Syrena on the latest poster for the movie. The two young actors were also the subjects of a set of recent interviews for the latest issue of Empire magazine. what did Bergès-Frisbey and Claflin have to say about Pirates? >> Posted 05.03.11 by BrentJS
Several new posters were recently released to promote a trio of upcoming sequels. Disney is once again using mermaids to hype the fourth movie in its popular Pirates franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, releasing two new posters that feature the mermaid Syrena (played by Astrid Berges-Frisbey). Earlier this month, Disney released a poster that featured three mermaids and a TV spot that revealed that mermaids are somehow essential to Blackbeard's (Ian McShane) plans for the Fountain of Youth, a quest the notorious pirate embarks on with the (forced) aid of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp). It's still unclear why Blackbeard needs mermaids, but it's a good bet that the reason is pretty sinister.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides was written by Terry Rossio and Ted Elliot, the writers of the previous three Pirates movies, and directed by Rob Marshall (Nine). Penelope Cruz, Kevin R. McNally, and Academy Award–winner Geoffrey Rush also star. The adventure begins opens May 20th. see the other new posters >> Posted 04.29.11 by BrentJS
It's been a long, brutal winter in most parts of the country, so it's no surprise that even Hollywood is looking to get a jump on summer. The rollout of blockbuster movies starts this Friday, a full month before the Memorial Day Weekend.
As you'd expect (and hope), the mix of movies being offered up is heavy on the Action/Adventure movies (11) and Comedies (10). There's also plenty of offerings for Kids/Families (8). What's new this year is the addition of more R-rated comedies, thanks in no small measure to The Hangover's runaway success two summers back. Along with it's sequel, see what else is playing this summer — complete with trailers and photo galleries.

Over the course of three movies, Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) has faced an assortment of motley villains, from British naval officers to undead pirates and mythological denizens of the deep. However, in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Disney's reluctant hero will face his greatest threat yet — a "biker pirate" played by Ian McShane. Actually, Sparrow's nemesis in the fourth Pirates movie is the notorious pirate Catbeard, er...Blackbeard, who forces Capt. Jack to help him search for the fabled Fountain of Youth. At least that's how McShane described his character in a recent interview with ContactMusic.

It was a pleasure to shoot [On Stranger Tides]. I was only glad it finished so I could get rid of the beard! It was the heaviest thing — it was like having a dead cat around my face! It was made in three or four pieces and held on by magnets and God knows what else. It took an hour and a half to put on every day. It was sort of spectacular. He was a real biker pirate — it's all black leather.

With superhero movie news taking over the headlines in the wake of the recent WonderCon comic book and popular arts convention in San Francisco, Disney wants to make sure that you don't forget about its loveable anti-hero, Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), who returns to the big screen this summer in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
To promote the movie, Disney has released a new teaser poster that features the latest addition to the Pirates mythos, mermaids—a rather boring new international poster has also turned up, but it only depicts burning pirate ships on rough waters—and has also aired the first new TV spot since the Super Bowl. The new TV spot contains snippets of new footage and also explains for the first time why mermaids are an essential part of Capt. Jack's quest to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. watch the new TV spot >> Posted 04.05.11 by BrentJS
