If a movie stars Daniel Radcliffe, it's likely to become a franchise. That's what happened with last year's The Woman in Black, Radcliffe's first post-Harry Potter role. Based on Susan Hill's 1983 novel of the same name, The Woman in Black became the most successful British horror movie in 20 years, so the fact that a sequel is now in preparation isn't very surprising.
Hill never wrote a sequel to her novel, but Deadline reports that Hammer Films is teaming with Hill for the movie sequel. Set 40 years after the events of the original (roughly, the 1940s), The Woman in Black: Angels of Death will follow a new couple who move into Eel Marsh House, the same house where Radcliffe faced off against the spectre. No word yet on whether director James Watkins will return, but it looks like Jane Goldman will not, as Jon Croker, who worked as a story editor on the original, will pen the sequel.
The Woman in Black sequel is in its early stages, so neither the cast nor a production start have been announced. While The Woman in Black was clearly a financial success, earning $112 million worldwide, a significant portion of that was due to Radcliffe's involvement and it will be interesting to see if the sequel will have a similar fate.
