Summit Entertainment is looking to alternative advertising to get people to go see its Timur Bekmambetov-produced (Wanted, Day Watch) alien invasion thriller, The Darkest Hour, which opens on Christmas Day. Instead of putting out yet another trailer or preview clip, Summit decided to go the viral route this time, releasing a video online that shows a Russian reporter giving a live broadcast as the aliens begin their attack. All but invisible, the alien creatures feed on electricity and electromagnetism and the city begins to go dark as they drain its power grid. Oblivious to the danger, the reporter keeps on reporting until he is blasted by a violent burst of yellow energy and reduced to dust and ash.
