A new teaser has been released for the second installment of The Hunger Games franchise. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, starring Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence and helmed by new director Francis Lawrence continues the story set in a dystopian world where young adults are forced to take part in a deadly TV game. From the looks of the trailer emotional stakes are raised with Katniss (Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutchinson) being paraded on their victory tour. Katniss is forced to choose between her own safety and the safety of the ones she loves. It also looks like there will be a bit more Katniss/ Gale drama than the first and shows how far President Snow (Donal Sutherland), with the help of Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour Hoffman) will go to destroy Katniss' image of hope. The dark, dystopian feel sets up the movie to be as memorable and as intense as the first but fans will have to wait until its release in November to get their next Hunger Games fix.

Your first look at the inevitable first look.
After the enormous success of The Hunger Games, fans will probably be happy to see any amount of footage from the upcoming sequel, Catching Fire. That's fortunate, because the recently released teaser (via MTV) contains only a brief look at the sequel, just enough to see Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks) escorting Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mallark (Josh Hutcherson) to their introduction as winners of the Hunger Games prior to their "Victory Tour" of the Districts. The entire trailer will debut Sunday, April 14th, during the MTV Movie Awards, so this brief amount of footage will have to suffice for now.

Blade Runner and Alien director Ridley Scott returned to sci-fi after a 30-year hiatus with the visually stunning and highly divisive Prometheus, while the superhero sub-genre of sci-fi continued its ascension, with The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises claiming the first and second spots on the list of the highest-grossing movies of the year. The second chapter in Lionsgate's wildly popular Hunger Games movie franchise has finally gone into production in Georgia. In a press release distributed yesterday, Lionsgate announced the start of principal photography on The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and released the official synopsis of the movie. Additionally, Lionsgate announced a global sweepstakes that could win you a trip to the set of the movie.

With most of the original Hunger Games cast returning for the Catching Fire sequel, director Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend), who replaced the outgoing Gary Ross in April, has been working overtime to add cast members to fill the new roles that enter the franchise in Suzanne Collins' second novel of the Hunger Games trilogy. Philip Seymour Hoffman was confirmed for the role of Plutarch Heavensbee in early July, while Jena Malone was confirmed a few weeks later in the role of Johanna Mason. A flurry of casting activity has occurred since then, and Hollywood Dailies has the lowdown on the latest casting.

Last month, actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was confirmed for the role of Plutarch Heavensbee in the upcoming sequel The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. While any movie would be happy to get an actor of Hoffman's caliber, the project seemed like an odd fit for the actor, who usually eschews major studio fare for independent projects. However, in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hoffman admitted that he took the role because he thought it was "interesting" and he "liked the people involved."
It’s a great group of actors. It’s a great environment. And the character was something I was attracted to. It was just an interesting role.

She was Magda in Sex and the City, and now Lynn Cohen will be Mags in the Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire. This is good news considering only a couple of weeks ago the 51-year-old Oscar winner Melissa Leo was rumored to be the front runner in the competition for the role. Though Leo is a great actress, she seemed far too young to be cast as a nearly toothless, 80-something woman who can barely walk.
As usual, the announcement was made on the Hunger Games Facebook page. Everyone is still anxious to hear who will be cast as Mags' District 4 counterpart, Finnick Odair, but there are plenty of other tributes who haven't been announced as well. District 1's Gloss and Cashmere are both important roles to fill, as are Brutus and Enobaria from District 2. It seems likely that we'll hear about all those casting decisions first, since the Gamemakers in the Capitol will probably wait to the last possible moment to reveal who will be the male tribute from District 4.

Earlier this month, Jena Malone (Sucker Punch, Donnie Darko) was reportedly offered a part in the upcoming Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire, as Johanna Mason, the brash and sarcastic former District 7 tribute who creates an uneasy alliance with protagonist Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence). Looks like she has finally accepted. Lionsgate has announced that Malone is confirmed to appear as Mason in the highly-anticipated second installment.
Malone joins a cast that has also recently added Philip Seymour Hoffman as new Gamemaster Plutarch Heavensbee and Amanda Plummer (Pulp Fiction) as Wiress, with Sam Claflin (Snow White and the Huntsman) rumored to be up for the role of Finnick Odair, the former District 4 tribute who, like Katniss and Johanna, will be asked to participate in the Quarter Quell, an edition of the Hunger Games that uses former winners of the televised, fight-to-the-death competition.
Already scheduled for a November 22, 2013, release date, shooting on Catching Fire will begin this September. Academy Award–winning screenwriters Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) and Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine) adapted the script from Suzanne Collins' novel. Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) will direct.
