The award season is officially over with the conclusion of Sunday night's Academy Award ceremony. There were several surprising moments at this year's Oscars, including Tommy Lee Jones managing to crack a smile, Daniel Day-Lewis revealing Spielberg's first choice for the role of Abraham Lincoln, and Ang Lee confirming that there is a movie god — though it may be a hard-to-grasp, allegorical god. Though it was a big night for Argo, Life of Pi and Les Miserables, no one movie scored an overwhelming number of awards. Perhaps that just goes to show how strong this year's contenders were.
For those who want to stay immersed in the glamour and excitement of award season, be sure to catch The Reelz Show's Oscar after-party on Tuesday morning. We'll be taking a look back at the hottest fashions, the funniest moments and the big winners of the night.

Rihanna, not satisfied with only singing and acting, has taken a step into the fashion world by designing a collection for U.K clothing chain River Island. Judging by what the critics are saying, perhaps the star should have stopped at acting. The collection, which launched over the weekend, has been described as “uninspired, underwhelming and just plain unattractive” and the fashion show itself “a horror show”. Including belly chains, see through mesh tops and high slit skirts , the collection appears to be highly influenced by the superstar as something only she would — or should — wear. However it has been acknowledged that the collection will probably still sell simply due to the fact that the name Rihanna is attached.
Zero Dark Thirty and Argo have taken the top prizes at the 2013 Writers Guild Awards. Zero Dark Thirty’s Mark Boal achieved Best Original Screenplay and Argo’s Chris Terrio received Best Adapted Screenplay offering a special shout out to director Ben Affleck in his acceptance speech. Though he was recently snubbed for an Oscar nomination, Ben Affleck was recognized by the Hollywood Foreign Press as the best director of 2012 for his work on Argo. The based-on-a-true-story spy thriller also took home the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture, Drama, while Les Miserables won for Best Picture in the Comedy or Musical category.
In addition to all the award-season glitz and glamour, Sunday night's Golden Globes had many lessons to offer to viewers.Paul Rudd and Salma Hayek were good enough to prove the importance of showing up to rehearsal — after an apparent teleprompter failure, both were completely lost and had no idea what category they were presenting. By looking rested and healthy but still sporting a few well earned wrinkles, former President Bill Clinton gave every actor in Hollywood a lesson in aging well. Jennifer Lawrence made it clear that she is still very much a girl on fire by taking home the award for Best Actress in a Comedy, and a stone-faced Tommy Lee Jones showed us that not one everyone enjoys the antics of Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell.

Lincoln is already having a successful awards season and it’s only mid-December. The presidential biopic had a strong showing at the SAG nominations on Wednesday, and today the Spielberg-helmed Lincoln snagged seven Golden Globe nominations. Argo and Django Unchained each scored five nods apiece, with Django dominating the Supporting Actor field. Both Christopher Waltz and Leonardo DiCaprio were nominated in the category for their work in the Tarantino western revenge flick, though the Hollywood Foreign Press Association shut out Django himself, Jamie Foxx, from the Best Actor category.

Which of this year's movies deserve the industry’s highest honor?
This has been an incredible year for movie lovers, especially fans of genre movies. There were fewer superheroes on the big screen, but they ruled the box office, nonetheless, with smartly written, ingeniously directed and just plain fun comic book adaptations coming in first, second, and fifth on the list of the highest-grossing movies of the year. Sci-fi fans were made to suffer through a couple of early duds, but had their patience rewarded with the return of some classic characters and one of the most influential directors to work in the genre after a thirty-year hiatus. Fantasy fans got to choose between whimsical and warrior Snow Whites, and the world's most popular vampire couple had a baby, not to mention that the greatest high fantasy franchise of all time returns to theaters this month after a decade slumbering in the Shire. (Horror fans got the short end of the
stake stick this year, with too many sequels and not enough original content.)
Women continued to assert themselves in 2012, with more female-driven comedies getting laughs for the kinds of jokes once reserved for men, and the first woman to win an Oscar for Best Director is almost a sure thing for another nomination. Independent studios also made a splash this year, turning out several engaging, moving, and downright brilliant dramas that are every bit as good as the big studio dramas with A-list directors.
Which movies were the best? Which ones deserve the honor of being nominated for the movie industry's top prize? That's up to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to decide, but we want to know what you think. Ignore genre and tell us which movies deserve to be nominated for Oscars, whether for Best Picture, Best Animated Feature or Best Documentary.
