Chris Hemsworth and his shaggy blonde locks are back in the first trailer for Thor: The Dark World. In addition to the blonde wig, most of the other memorable characters from 2011's Thor are returning, including Thor's best Earth-dwelling ladyfriend, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), his creepy brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston), his dad Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and his best Asgard-dwelling ladyfriend, Sif (Jaimie Alexander). In the trailer, Thor transports Jane from Earth to Asgard, and Sif seems to be none too pleased with the situation. Looks like movie goers are in for yet another love triangle involving humans and immortals.

Yesterday, Marvel Studios released a short preview teaser of their Cinematic Universe "Phase Two" which starts next month with Iron Man 3 and will end with The Avengers 2 in 2015. The teaser included a little footage of Iron Man 3, but the full, nearly five minute "Phase Two" preview not only offers a longer look at Iron Man 3 (including interviews with Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Ben Kingsley and director Shane Black) but the rest of the "Phase Two" movies as well.
Behind-the-scenes footage is revealed from Thor: The Dark World, with director Alan Taylor (HBO's Game of Thrones) explaining that Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) will join Thor (Chris Hemsworth) in Asgard, while concept art from Captain America: The Winter Soldier is revealed and directors Anthony and Joe Russo discuss what's in store for Cap (Chris Evans) in the sequel. Even Guardians of the Galaxy gets a mention, with more concept art revealed and director James Gunn briefly talks about the "space epic" before the real treat of the "Phase Two" preview is revealed: a few seconds of director Edgar Wright's test footage for 2015's Ant-Man, all before Joss Whedon can end the preview with a brief update of what's happening with The Avengers 2.

Last year's mega-hit The Avengers was, in some ways, the catalyst behind the spate of comic book movies created by Marvel Studios, who struck gold with 2008's Iron Man, which teased at a superhero team-up movie to come. After finding that success, Marvel followed by introducing more individual superheroes in 2008's The Incredible Hulk, 2010's Iron Man 2, and last year's Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger, embarking on an unusual strategy of creating individual movies that also worked a little bit like sequels that fed into the story of The Avengers.
The Avengers 2 will arrive in 2015 and cap off a second phase of Marvel's "cinematic universe," and will face competition from what Warner Bros.and DC Entertainment hopes will be the start of their "cinematic universe," starting with 2015's Justice League. Gangster Squad screenwriter Will Beall has already been hired to write the screenplay for the movie which will follow (if recent rumors are true) an unsurprising lineup that includes Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman and Martian Manhunter. With the release dates being so close together, we wondered which team could take down the other, and, since there will never be a movie where the two teams face off, there's only one way to solve this hypothetical dilemma: the cybernetic walls of our Character Cage Match!

British actor Tom Hiddleston was a relative unknown before being cast as the villain Loki in last year's Thor but now Hiddleston is known enough at least to be the recipient of his own fan mail. Having already reprised the part in this summer's The Avengers, Hiddleston will play the role a third time later this year as the sequel Thor: The Dark World starts production. After Total Film's readers voted Hiddleston "Hottest Actor," the actor discussed the role of Loki and what audiences may find so appealing about him.
In the words of Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner: "Loki’s mind is a box of cats. You can smell crazy on him!" In all seriousness though, I have received a lot of incredibly passionate and articulate letters from fans, explaining how they're drawn to Loki’s psychological and emotional complexity; that he's a villain you can almost root for; a villain you can love to hate, or hate to love. Underneath the steely cold veneer of his trickster charm is a certain vulnerability and sensitivity — the wounded fragility of an outcast brother and son. His mind IS a box of cats though! But I love him.

The villain for Marvel's upcoming sequel Thor: The Dark World has finally been chosen (again) and the casting sheds some light on the "Dark World" discussed in the title.
THR reports that British actor Christopher Eccleston, who is best known for his work as Doctor Who in the show's 2005 season and played the villain Destro in 2009's G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, is in final negotiations to play the villain in the sequel to last year's Thor. Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale) was originally in discussions for the then-undisclosed role, but, by the time Marvel presented a formal offer, had already accepted the lead role in the upcoming NBC TV series Hannibal.

Rumors that the long-developing adaptation of Ant-Man could arrive in 2014 continue to grow for Marvel's miniature superhero. The rumors began in May when director Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) vaguely discussed that he would shoot "some" Ant-Man and the upcoming comedy The World's End (with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost) "this year," which was perhaps a bit of a red herring after it was revealed that Wright shot some Ant-Man test footage in June.
That footage was revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con, but instead of announcing a release date for Ant-Man, Marvel gave their second 2014 slot to Guardians of the Galaxy instead. Marvel Studios' co-president Louis D'Esposito later revealed that 2014 "might be an opportunity where we do a third film" instead of their standard two. The latest Ant-Man rumor has production starting as early as spring or summer 2013.

It appears as if Marvel Studios will soon have two superhero sequels in production at the same time. Robert Downey, Jr. is currently shooting Iron Man 3, in Oak Island, N.C, under the direction of Shane Black, with plans to also shoot in Miami, Florida, and China. And, in just over a week, it looks like Downey's The Avengers co-star, Chris Hemsworth will once again suit up as Thor in Thor: The Dark World.
The production office for a movie supposedly called "Thursday Mourning" recently sent out a notice to the residents of the Bourne Wood area of England explaining that the movie would begin filming on August 6th. So, what makes us think that Thursday Mourning is really Thor: The Dark Realm? Well, the fact that Thursday is named for the Norse god Thor is one hint. Another is that the movie is described as a "comic book adaptation set in another 'fictional realm'" with a "comic book hero" protagonist. Finally, the production company name says volumes: "Asgard Productions II UK Ltd." Like the Norse god, Marvel's Thor hails from the "fictional realm" of Asgard, and "II" clearly implies that this is the second Asgard Productions property, i.e., a sequel. The notice also includes several details about the plot of the movie, so read at your own risk.

Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) and Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) really seemed to click in The Avengers, but apparently the budding bromance was only meant to be a short-lived one. Despite the fact that Stark suggested that Banner swing by Stark Industries, we won't be seeing the Hulk and Iron Man teaming up again in Iron Man 3, Marvel Studios President of Production Kevin Feige told ScreenRant during an interview conducted at the recent San Diego Comic-Con. Though still a highly successful movie, most fans agree that Iron Man 2 suffered under the weight of too many characters and too many continuity strings tying it to the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, something that Feige does not want to see happen to its sequel.
The trick is to not let it get complicated. If you’re a fan of the comics than you’ll know that continuity in the comics can be really interesting and really fun and it can also start to crush under its own weight. Iron Man 3 is a direct move to prevent that from happening. So it is very much a [co-writer and director] Shane Black Tony Stark story.

It seems the upcoming NBC TV series Hannibal has just as big of an appetite as the forensic psychiatrist-turned-serial killer featured in the horror novels written by Thomas Harris on which the series is based. Hannibal's first victim was director David Slade (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse), who had been attached to direct Fox's Daredevil reboot since March 2011, but dropped out earlier this week to direct the pilot for the TV series based on the early life of Dr. Hannibal "the Cannibal" Lecter. Now, Hannibal has claimed another would-be Marvel-ite, Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale). Mikkelsen was in talks to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as an unspecified villain — "a major, major new antagonist," according to producer Kevin Feige — in Thor 2, but apparently the offer came in "too late" and he opted for the title role in Hannibal instead.

So far, the cast of last year's Thor have been slowly announced as returning for the upcoming sequel Thor 2. Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Tom Hiddleston were the first to be revealed as reprising their roles as Thor, Jane Foster, and Loki, respectively. In January, Jamie Alexander confirmed her return as the Asgardian warrior Sif, and then Idris Elba decided he'd confirm his return as Heimdall. Kat Dennings has said that she can't reveal whether she's coming back or not, and Joshua Dallas recently announced that he won't be returning.
