February 4, the night before Super Bowl XLVI, Steven Tyler and Carrie Underwood will share the stage in a live CMT Crossroads special. If the pairing seems odd (beyond the American Idol marketing angle), we remind you that the duo did perform together at the 2011 Country Music Awards — which gives up hope that they won't cover "I'm a Little Bit Country, I'm a Little Bit Rock and Roll."
Just in case her promotional appearances for Journey 2: The Mysterious Island with ex Josh Hutcherson have been causing any confusion, Vanessa Hudgens flew to Hawaii and planted a steamy series of kisses on boyfriend Austin Butler in full view of the paparazzi.
After taking to Facebook to bash Madonna's Golden Globe win last weekend, Elton John's husband, David Furnish, has backtracked, writing an apology of sorts, again on Facebook: "My passion for our film Gnomeo & Juliet and belief in Elton's song really got my emotional juices going. But I must say for the record that I do believe Madonna is a great artist, and that Elton and I wish her all the best for next week's premiere of the film W.E.
And ending on a sad note. After a nearly two-year battle with leukemia, Soul and R&B legend Etta James has died. Best known for her hits "At Last" and "Something's Got a Hold of Me," the 73-year-old singer's life was covered in part in Cadillac Records, in which Beyoncé starred as James. The trailer for Madonna's new movie, W.E., hit the web two days ago, causing critics and moviegoers alike to question its success. The British love-story tells the tale of King Edward VIII and his lover, Wallis Simpson, through a lonely New Yorker (Abby Cornish) in the late 1990's, nearly six decades later.
Madonna's directorial debut was Filth and Wisdom in 2008 which received less than supportive reviews, and reviews from festivals where W.E. has been screened have been mixed. However, Madonna's movie career is not without some critical success. In 1997, the pop star was honored with a Golden Globe for her role in Evita. W.E. opens in New York and Los Angeles on December 9th. Watch the Trailer >> Posted 11.21.11 by reelz
Does being married to a movie director for eight years qualify you to be a director yourself? Madonna seems to think so. W.E. is the pop star's second directorial effort (the first was 2008's Filth and Wisdom — yeah, we don't remember it either) and it did not garner much critical acclaim when it was screened at the Venice Film Festival.
Madonna has reportedly said that the critics comments seemed to reflect their feeling about her rather than their feelings about the movie. Perhaps, but the critics are entitled to like any movies they want. No disrespect to the Madonna lovers of the world, but critics prefer different movies.
A three minute trailer for the period biopic of Wallis Simpson intertwined with a story about a modern-day woman obsessed with the Duchess is certainly stylish and lovely. Whether the story and dialogue are as pitch perfect as the costumes and makeup is still undetermined. watch the trailer >> Posted 10.15.11 by Mandy
