After earning $271 million in worldwide box office (so far), New Line Cinema wants a sequel to follow the success of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and they want it soon. Like 2014 soon.
THR reports that Journey 3 (working title) is on the fast track to be in theaters in two years, and already has Journey 2 screenwriters Mark and Brian Gunn and director Brad Peyton set to return. The third installment will also be based on the works of 19th century French writer Jules Verne. Peyton revealed that he is excited about directing the sequel — likely because it means he won't have to direct a follow-up to his 2010 sequel Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore.
what cast will return for Journey 3? >> Posted 03.07.12 by Ryan
I grew up a fan of Verne, so I know a lot about the mythologies. Mysterious Island was one of eight or nine really seminal works. I know we've just scratched the surface of what we can do. This one's going to be a lot bigger. We're going to go to a completely different world. It's just going to be a bigger experience, and we're going to grow the mythology. Journey 2 was about rebooting a franchise; now it's about making the seminal work in the franchise.

February 4, the night before Super Bowl XLVI, Steven Tyler and Carrie Underwood will share the stage in a live CMT Crossroads special. If the pairing seems odd (beyond the American Idol marketing angle), we remind you that the duo did perform together at the 2011 Country Music Awards — which gives up hope that they won't cover "I'm a Little Bit Country, I'm a Little Bit Rock and Roll."
Just in case her promotional appearances for Journey 2: The Mysterious Island with ex Josh Hutcherson have been causing any confusion, Vanessa Hudgens flew to Hawaii and planted a steamy series of kisses on boyfriend Austin Butler in full view of the paparazzi.
After taking to Facebook to bash Madonna's Golden Globe win last weekend, Elton John's husband, David Furnish, has backtracked, writing an apology of sorts, again on Facebook: "My passion for our film Gnomeo & Juliet and belief in Elton's song really got my emotional juices going. But I must say for the record that I do believe Madonna is a great artist, and that Elton and I wish her all the best for next week's premiere of the film W.E.
And ending on a sad note. After a nearly two-year battle with leukemia, Soul and R&B legend Etta James has died. Best known for her hits "At Last" and "Something's Got a Hold of Me," the 73-year-old singer's life was covered in part in Cadillac Records, in which Beyoncé starred as James. Those that enjoyed the 2008 family adventure movie Journey to the Center of the Earth might notice that Brendan Fraser is a no-show for the sequel, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. In Fraser's place next to Josh Hutcherson's character of Sean Anderson, however, is Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, which seems like an upgrade, at least in terms of potential action scenes and certainly in the "pec pop" department (though Fraser will always reign when it comes to awkward clapping).
In Mysterious Island, Hutcherson discovers a coded distress signal that leads him to a, well, mysterious island that doesn't exist on any map. Johnson, Hutcherson's new stepfather, comes along for the ride, as well as a tour guide pilot (Luis Guzman) and his daughter (Vanessa Hudgens). Michael Caine plays Hutcherson's missing grandfather. watch the trailer >> Posted 11.10.11 by Ryan
Vanessa Hudgens is looking to overhaul her image with her "kick-butt" character in director Zack Snyder's upcoming action fantasy Sucker Punch, and she wants to keep working in the action genre.
THR reports that Hudgens is joining the cast of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, the sequel to 2008's Journey to the Center of the Earth. This time around, the returning Josh Hutcherson teams up with his mother's boyfriend (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, replacing Brendan Fraser as Hutcherson's uncle) in order to find Hutcherson's missing grandfather (Michael Caine). Hudgens will play a "Pacific Islander who gets swept into the adventure" and ends up falling for Hutcherson.
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island will start production in late October under the direction of Brad Peyton (Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore). The story is loosely based on the 1874 novel Mysterious Island by Jules Verne. Posted 10.15.10 by Ryan
2008's Journey to the Center of the Earth scored up a hefty $241 million in worldwide box office, so it's no surprise that another Journey is on the way. What is a surprise is that while Josh Hutcherson is returning, Brendan Fraser is not. THR reports that Fraser had some scheduling conflicts that forced him to drop out of the sequel, but that New Line has found a replacement in Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
