But since this is the Reelzies, the category has to be more specific than just Best Movie Animal, so instead we present the Reelzie nominees for Best Lion, Tiger, and/or Bear in a 2012 Movie.

Six years ago, Alex the Lion (voiced by Ben Stiller), Marty the Zebra (Chris Rock), Gloria the Hippopotamus (Jada Pinkett Smith), and Melman the Giraffe (David Schwimmer) were safely on their way from the Central Park Zoo to a wildlife preserve in Kenya when a botched penguin hijacking found them washed up on the shores of an island off the coast of Africa in Madagascar.
In the sequel, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, the gang decided that it was time that they return to New York City, but their plane crash-landed in the heart of Africa and, of course, trouble ensued. Now, everyone's favorite animal entourage returns in their first 3D adventure, Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted, in which they once again try to return to their home at the Central Park Zoo only to end up getting stranded in Europe, hooked up with a traveling circus and pursued by the police (led by Frances McDormand).

Some people use Labor Day to mark the end of summer. In our case, it's when the last of the blockbuster movies have rolled out... and we're left looking ahead to next year's big releases.
What's on deck for Summer 2012? Well, not surprisingly, more sequels, remakes, and lots and lots of 3-D. The Avengers kicks things off May 4, and the season climaxes on July 20 with the release ofThe Dark Knight Rises. See what else we have to look forward to in our preview of the 25 movies we'll be talking about next year.
