Most major movie awards are voted on by an elite group of individuals who have been bestowed with the honor of being a voting member of a very exclusive club or academy. The Reelzies are no different, and this is your official invitation to be a voting member of the ReelzChannel Academy of Movies, Media, the Interwebs, and Other Stuff. Ballots for different categories will be posted daily until year’s end, so be sure not to miss a voting opportunity. After a trio of high-profile blockbuster movies in 2009 (Terminator Salvation and Avatar) and 2010 (Clash of the Titans), 2011 was something of a slow year for Australian actor Sam Worthington, with neither The Debt nor The Texas Killing Fields drawing much attention (or attendance). Worthington will most likely be back in blockbuster form in 2012 when the sequel to Clash of the Titans, Wrath of the Titans, opens in March, but before that he has one more indie project heading into select theaters, the Summit Entertainment thriller Man on a Ledge.
Directed by documentary filmmaker Asger Leth (Ghosts of Cité Soleil) from a script by Pablo F. Fenjves, Man on a Ledge sees Worthington playing a wrongly-accused disgraced cop who escapes from prison to steal the $30 million diamond he was originally convicted of stealing. What makes this different than your average run-of-the-mill heist movie? Worthington's character co-ordinates the heist while pretending that he is about to commit suicide by jumping from the ledge of a New York City skyscraper. Check out the new preview clips released by Summit Entertainment to decide whether you need to "jump" up and run to your theater to watch Worthington in Man on a Ledge. watch the new preview clips >> Posted 01.10.12 by BrentJS
Say you're a cop who is framed for a crime you didn't commit, what would you do if you found a chance to escape? If you're Sam Worthington (Avatar, Clash of the Titans) in the upcoming thriller Man on a Ledge, the plan is simple: step out on the ledge of a building in New York and feign a suicide attempt while actually coordinating the theft of a $30M diamond and convincing a hostage negotiator to believe he's innocent as SWAT team members swirl around ready to rain down bullets. See? Simple.
If the plot seems convoluted, don't worry, the cast is tight. Worthington is surrounded by such notables as Elizabeth Banks (Our Idiot Brother) as the hostage negotiator; Jamie Bell (The Eagle, Jumper) and Genesis Rodriguez (Entourage) as Worthington's co-conspirators; Kyra Sedgwick (TNT's The Closer) as a news reporter; Ed Burns (Saving Private Ryan) as a cop; Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker) as possibly another cop (he drives in an unmarked police car for no more than half a second); and Ed Harris as a guy who tries on suit jackets and says things like, "Find them" and "Tell me it's done" (the villain, of course). From the looks of the icy blue poster and teaser trailer, the movie looks promising, since the story sounds like Inside Man and Negotiator stuffed inside Phone Booth. watch the trailer >> Posted 09.23.11 by Ryan
