The family that robs together doesn't always stay together.
Germany has been the backdrop of most of Award-winning Austrian filmmaker Stefan Ruzowitzy's (The Counterfeiters) movies to date, but the cold climes of rural Michigan fill the camera lens in his latest movie, the crime drama Deadfall (formerly Kin and Blackbird). Conceived by novice screenwriter Zach Dean while a passenger aboard a "seemingly doomed flight" from Burbank to New York, Deadfall is described as a heist movie that also "touches on the themes of love and loyalty."
The movie stars Eric Bana and Olivia Wilde as Addison and Liza, siblings who successfully rob a casino only to suffer a car accident that leaves their get-away driver and a state trooper dead. Forced to split up and head for the Canadian border during a near whiteout blizzard, the pair reunite at the home of a retired sheriff (Kris Kristofferson), his wife (Sissy Spacek), and their son (Charlie Hunnam), an ex-boxer who happened to pick up Liza along the side of the road. The movie received mixed reviews after debuting at the Tribeca Film Festival, but the new trailer that was just released makes a case for Deadfall being a sleeper hit. watch the trailer >> Posted 08.17.12 by BrentJS
