The opening of the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., is just the beginning of what is sure to be a contentious and interesting presidential race. Republican nominee Mitt Romney's wife Ann was one of the speakers the first night of the convention, a public-speaking role that was new to the potential First Lady. Should the Romneys end up in the White House, it's possible that Ann could end up in a movie at some point, like many First Ladies before her. While you're thinking of who could possibly play Ann Romney, either as a First Lady or in a movie about the Romney campaign — don't forget, John McCain's unsuccessful 2008 Presidential campaign was adapted into the HBO movie Game Change — Hollywood Dailies has compiled a look at First Ladies on the small and big screen in the clip above. more on cinematic first ladies >> Posted 08.30.12 by Ryan
Today, advance tickets are on sale for the adaptation of Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games. In case fans forget that the movie will open in IMAX as well, the studio has released a new banner poster that shows protagonist Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) taking aim with her bow and arrow. Lionsgate clearly hopes the movie is on target to be a massive hit so it can greenlight Hunger Games sequels.
The story is set in a dystopian future where "tributes" from the 12 districts are randomly selected to participate in The Hunger Games, a televised fight to the death. Elizabeth Banks, who plays District 12 escort Effie Trinket, told MTV that she was "excited to see the actual Games." She also admitted that the Reaping, the ceremony where Effie publicly selects tributes, was the most difficult scene to shoot. more about the Reaping + the two TV spots >> Posted 02.22.12 by Ryan
2012 is a year filled with highly-anticipated movies, but according to a recent poll conducted by MTV's NextMovie.com, the upcoming adaptation of The Hunger Games is the most anticipated movie of this year — above even The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 and The Avengers (really, the poll was ultimately between Breaking Dawn and The Hunger Games as a movie like The Dark Knight Rises didn't even place on the poll, but we digress).
With that in mind, Lionsgate has released several new photos for The Hunger Games which reveal lead character Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) sitting in a field with Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth, speaking into a microphone with Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks) (likely during the Reaping), as well as another sitting photo that includes Peeta Mallark (Josh Hutcherson), Haymitch Abernathy (Woody Harrelson) and Cinna (Lenny Kravitz). see the other photos >> Posted 01.03.12 by Ryan
Who's the face for a new line of Hunger Games nail polish? Only Panem's most stylish lady, Effie Trinket .
According to The Capitol's Facebook page, the new line of 12 China Glaze polishes are each inspired by a different district. While it's probably safe to surmise that District 12 will be represented by either a coal black or a fiery orange, what colors would make sense to represent District 6 (transportation) or the livestock from District 10? Then again, perhaps it's better to just let the Capitol tackle those questions.
The ad features Elizabeth Banks in Effie's signature pink wig with intense fuchsia makeup and some truly crazy eyelashes. Oddly, we can't see what color nails she's wearing. Since there are only 12 polishes in the collection, perhaps they haven't selected a color to represent the capitol of Panem.

This week's People magazine features a look at the upcoming movie adaptation of The Hunger Games and the unrecognizable Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket. In the interview, Banks explained how her pink poofy hair and dramatic makeup helped the actress to get into the character of the tribute escort for District 12.
What else does Banks have to say about Effie? Posted 11.16.11 by Mandy
I would be in the hair and makeup trailer and I was Elizabeth, and then the wig went on and very suddenly I was Effie. Every day I would have that aha moment, like, 'We did it! We found Effie!'
Say you're a cop who is framed for a crime you didn't commit, what would you do if you found a chance to escape? If you're Sam Worthington (Avatar, Clash of the Titans) in the upcoming thriller Man on a Ledge, the plan is simple: step out on the ledge of a building in New York and feign a suicide attempt while actually coordinating the theft of a $30M diamond and convincing a hostage negotiator to believe he's innocent as SWAT team members swirl around ready to rain down bullets. See? Simple.
If the plot seems convoluted, don't worry, the cast is tight. Worthington is surrounded by such notables as Elizabeth Banks (Our Idiot Brother) as the hostage negotiator; Jamie Bell (The Eagle, Jumper) and Genesis Rodriguez (Entourage) as Worthington's co-conspirators; Kyra Sedgwick (TNT's The Closer) as a news reporter; Ed Burns (Saving Private Ryan) as a cop; Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker) as possibly another cop (he drives in an unmarked police car for no more than half a second); and Ed Harris as a guy who tries on suit jackets and says things like, "Find them" and "Tell me it's done" (the villain, of course). From the looks of the icy blue poster and teaser trailer, the movie looks promising, since the story sounds like Inside Man and Negotiator stuffed inside Phone Booth. watch the trailer >> Posted 09.23.11 by Ryan
What should you serve the next time your idiot brother drops by?
You might want to try one of the specialty cocktails served at the Our Idiot Brother After Party last night — Purity Southside, Ned's Juice, and The Idealist — created by Purity Vodka.
Hey, if they're good enough for Paul Rudd and Elizabeth Banks, they'll be good enough for your bro... Or any other idiot you may have in your life. Our Idiot Brother opens in theaters August 26. Get your muddler ready and go to the recipes >> Posted 08.17.11 by reelz
Fans of author Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games trilogy of novels got their first peek at Gale and Peeta (played by Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson, respectively) at the end of last month. Today, Lionsgate has released two more photos from the upcoming movie adaptation — this time, it's another look at lead character Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and a solo shot of Peeta laying back with a muddied face.
Production on The Hunger Games is nearing its end, having started in North Carolina this past May. Hunger Games cast member Elizabeth Banks, who plays Effie Trinket in the movie, recently gave ComingSoon an update on the shoot. "We're almost done," said Banks. more on the movie, plus the release date for its sequel >> Posted 08.08.11 by Ryan
So far this summer, the biggest surprise has been the success of nearly every R-Rated comedy that has been released. The Hangover Part II kicked things off in May, earning $527 million worldwide, while Bridesmaids, Bad Teacher and Horrible Bosses have all gone on to earn (so far) $168 million, $247 million and $114 million, respectively, worldwide. That gives a wide berth of hope for The Weinstein Company's upcoming Our Idiot Brother.
Starring Paul Rudd as a hippie farmer so naive that he sells marijuana to an uniformed police officer, Our Idiot Brother's story takes off after Rudd moves back in with his family. A second trailer for the movie debuted in June that showed some of the movie's heart, while the three, recently released preview clips are trying to show off the movie's humor. watch the clips >> Posted 08.05.11 by Ryan
In January, Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed that he was planning to return to acting after finishing his last term as California's governor. When Schwarzenegger later separated from his wife, Maria Shriver, after the discovery that he had secretly fathered a love child 10 years ago, he put his acting return on hold, much to the disappointment of director Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer), who was in pre-production on the drama Cry Macho, which was to be Schwarzenegger's first role new acting role. Months after the scandal, Schwarzenegger is ready to test his popularity in a new movie, but not in Cry Macho.
Deadline reports that Schwarzenegger is set to star in Last Stand with director Ji-woon Kim (The Good, the Bad, the Weird). Last Stand puts Schwarzenegger into a Western in a story that's perfect for him, according to what a Lionsgate executive told the website.
