Warner Bros. and Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way production company are moving forward with an adaptation of the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood that they are hoping will be the next Twilight. The script, titled The Girl With the Red Riding Hood, apparently has been around for a while, but it wasn't until writer David Johnson (Orphan) did some revisions that the project started to pick up some heat. According to the L.A. Times, Johnson's updated take on the 19th-Century fairy tale contains "the requisite dark/dangerous/romantic elements that can appeal to Twilight fans..."
At the time of the initial announcement, Catherine Hardwick, the director of Twilight, was said to be attached to direct The Girl With the Red Riding Hood, but this has never been officially confirmed. The Times article also mentioned this as a possibility, citing the fact that the holding deal that Hardwicke signed with Warner Bros. is up this month and her involvement with Riding Hood would fit into Warner's plans to target the Twilight audience. No casting decisions have been made yet, but Amanda Seyfried (Dear John) is reportedly the top contender for the title role. Posted 02.23.10 by BrentJS
