THR reports that former Shield writer John Hlavin will write the screenplay for Underworld 4. The fourth installment in the franchise is supposedly going to be shot in 3-D and will set up another trilogy of Underworld movies. Hlavin wouldn't say too much about the plot, but he did note that "it's not a prequel."
It will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences, meaning that we don't want to redo the first three movies, so steps are being taken to honor what fans have loved but at the same time introduce fresh elements.
Len Wiseman, director of the first two Underworlds will produce, while neither Kate Beckinsale, who starred in Underworld and Underworld: Evolution, nor Rhona Mitra, who starred in Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, are signed on to return. However, Beckinsale has said that she could be interested in returning if she liked the script. Posted 11.20.09 by Ryan
Lots of action and splashes of blood fill the screen as the sword-wielding vampire Sonja (Rhona Mitra) chops up her father's minions in a prelude to a more direct confrontation with dad in a one new clip from this latest installment in the Underworld franchise. The second clip shows Sonja and her Lycan lover Lucian in a dramatic escape from a fiery prison. A report back from an advance screening of other scenes in this prequel suggests that filmmakers really are trying to up the ante on epic battles here. One scene reportedly has a pack of Lycans literally rising up from the earth in an attack on a horse-drawn carriage. Another features a mass attack on a fortress by 300 werewolves in an echo of the battle of Helm's Deep from Lord of the Rings. Posted 01.21.09 by reelz
The zombie flick genre is enjoying a nice renaissance these days, thanks in part to the hot-chicks-versus-viruses subgenre birthed by Milla Jovovich and the Resident Evil franchise.
In Doomsday, the latest effort from Descent director Neil Marshall, a vicious plague known as "The Reaper Virus" threatens the whole of Great Britain. The hot chick tasked with battling it is Rhona Mitra, last seen in Mark Wahlberg's sniper thriller Shooter.

It appears that one of the more unfortunate side effects of the success of the splendid vampire flick 30 Days of Night is a renewed interest in lesser vampire-oriented franchises. Variety reports today that a Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans is officially moving forward, sans the one element that made the previous two Underworld movies tolerable: Kate Beckinsale. Billed as a prequel, the movie's story centers on the origins of the centuries-old battle between Vampires and Werewolves. B-list heavyweights Bill Nighy, Michael Sheen and Rhona Mitra are slated to star. What -- they couldn't get Kevin Sorbo? Pity. Posted 10.26.07 by reelz
