Television shows continue to be a resource for movie studios, with next year seeing the release of the big-screen versions of '70s gothic soap opera Dark Shadows and undercover cop show 21 Jump Street. Could Baywatch be next? Writer-director Peter Tolan, fresh off the final season of the FX show Rescue Me, recently admitted that he has turned in a Baywatch script to Paramount.
The fact that a Baywatch movie was even being developed is likely news for most, but a movie version has been slowly unfolding for years. Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, who has a producing deal with Paramount, has been helping in the development of a Baywatch movie, telling THR in March that they didn't "have a script that’s makeable" but admitted the movie "is a comedy, and I think we have a very interesting take — a classical idea that will be fresh for the world audience."
