December 17 is going to be a loaded weekend at the box office with three movies competing for an audience: the 3-D, sci-fi sequel Tron: Legacy, the 3-D live-action/animation hybrid Yogi Bear, and How Do You Know, the 2-D romantic comedy from writer/director James L. Brooks (As Good as It Gets, Broadcast News). While How Do You Know will have an advantage of not having to fight for 3-D screens, THR reports that it does have an inflated budget of $120 million dollars to earn back ($20 million is already returning in tax breaks). A story about a romantically-challenged woman caught in a love triangle wouldn't appear to need that much of a budget, but the report claims that the salaries of all of its stars — Reese Witherspoon ($15 million), Owen Wilson ($10 million), Paul Rudd ($3 million), Jack Nicholson ($12 million), plus Brooks' $10 million paycheck — put the budget at $50 million before cameras even started rolling.
With Sony Pictures hoping that How Do You Know will perform like last year's It's Complicated (earning $219 million on a $85 million budget), the studio has released three new clips to entice viewers about the movie. watch the clip >>
