It's a sad day for classic television fans. Stars of two 1970s television series passed away on Tuesday.
Sherman Hemsley, best known for his work as George Jefferson in both The Jeffersons and All in the Family, died at his home in El Paso, Texas yesterday. He was 74 years old.
The Jeffersons ran for 10 years, and filmed 253 episodes, though the number of airings is countless due to its multiple runs in syndication. Though Hemsley retired from television acting in the nineties, he joined his Jeffersons costar, Isabel Sanford, to reprise their roles as George and Weezy Jefferson in guest spots in television shows as well as in commercials well into the 2000s.
In tribute to the actor, TV Land will air a four-hour Jeffersons marathon on Saturday, July 28th. The episodes will feature some of Hemsley's most memorable episodes. Actor Chad Everett Passes Away Posted 07.25.12 by Mandy
